It Was A Matter Of Timing

Some times timing can be crucial, as it was for our dog, Pandora. If we would have been 30 minutes later she would have died!! Friday night after work we came home and checked on Pandora as we (the hubby and I both worked 8 hours.) She was acting fine and we decided to go out to our local Burger Baskets and More. We had our meal and a couple of drinks and when we came back Pandora was disorientated and her stomach was all bloated. She was in a lot of pain!!! The husband called the after hour number of our vet and he described the symptoms to the vet. The vet told us to get her up there as fast as we could. The hubby had to literally pick our 100+ pound dog up in our SUV. We traveled most of the 30 mile trip at 90 miles an hour!! The hubby unloaded her and we escorted her into the exam room of the vets. Even in pain, she was wagging her tail. The vet took x-rays and she came out and gave us the choose or surgery or watch her die!! I didn't have to think about it!! Do the surgery!! By doing the x-ray, the vet found out that she was full of air and her stomach was twisted!!! We had made it in time for the vet to start the procedure. We went home and about 2 hours later we got a call from the vet saying that Pandora made it through surgery with flying colors. The vet had to poke a hole in her stomach to let the air/gas out and had to undo her stomach, in doing so the vet sewed extra to keep her stomach in place. She stated that the next 12 hours would be crucial. Saturday we got to go up and see her and find out more about every thing and we got to see her stomach x-ray. Her stomach was 5 times bigger than it should be!! She had to stay and they gave her IVs and antibiotics and ulcer meds and Monday early afternoon we got to bring her home. She is still taking meds but is getting around better and is enjoying all the food she's been getting, but isn't eating much of the dry dog food. You can see in this picture the part of her stomach that they shaved and the stitches. The vet that performed the surgery said that Pandora did an awesome job during surgery and as a "patient" overall. When we picked her up, another staff person said she was a sweety!! Our "dog" is more than just a dog, she is part of our family!!! ~Peace~

Wow! Poor Pandora, but she's better now because of her great pet parents. When a horse gets colic, that's what happens. Then the horse will lay down and roll since they are trying to get rid of the pain. That is what causes the intestines to get twisted. That happens and without surgery - and often even with it - the horse will die.

aww poor pandora. it break one's heart to see a dog's tail wag even in pain. glad Pandora is okay now. I suddenly remember a dog street whose genitals was releasing blood already as we walked but he still wagged his tail everytime he saw people. till now, it breaks my heart.
