Creepy dude.

I got a call from Horse Jr.'s mom late last night, asking if I could walk Horse Jr. to school this morning.
Apparently, some creepy looking dude has been hanging out in his car in the same place every morning as Horse Jr. walks to school.
Horse Jr.'s mom had to work the early shift this morning and I have the day off, so I said I would.
I set my alarm for 6:15, we left at 7:20 (it's about 1.5 miles to his school) and off we went. I brought my bicycle so I could cycle home.
Of course, "creepy dude" was not there today. But we still had an enjoyable walk to school.
Horse Jr. had left his flip phone at school, and he'll (hopefully) recover it today, so my services won't be needed tomorrow (I work at Noon and could do it if necessary).
Today, I play music with (semi-retired) friends in the early afternoon. I'm going to "score" some Sudafed at the local drug store this morning. What are you up to today?
Oh, and how do you deal with "creepy dudes"?

These days one can't afford to ignore creepy dudes. Too many evil people out there. It's good you were able to walk Horse Jr to school, does he have any other kids to walk with? Wonder if his mom should report that person to the cops so they will at least be aware of a possible danger.

I'd like to see the guy. It wasn't clear to me what he did that what creepy...except look creepy. Horse Jr. said he's seen him in two different cars, and that both are relatively new. My "working hypothesis" is that he works at Texas Back 40, a BBQ place.

@TheHorse I sure hope you're right. Many years ago, my 12 year old cousin and her 7 year old sister came on a bus from Virginia to visit us in Jersey City. By themselves! But back then, it wasn't a big deal, but now no one would even dream of doing that.

@1creekgirl But have things really changed? Or does more "creepy" stuff make it into the media? In my childhood days, we did run around without parental supervision, but we were in groups and knew how to "get away from" creepy people.

Creepy dudes are unfortunately a real problem today. I would report the sighting. Maybe the police will patrol the area. Enjoy your music session.

@LindaOHio He may just be waiting to go to work. Horse Jr. (he's eleven) wasn't able to express what about the dude creeps him out.

@thislittlepennyearns I don't have any of my own, but I've been a professional dad for about 25 years. I'm a child psychologist, and I've helped raise up a bunch of kids over the years. Some keep in close touch with me. Horse Jr. is 11-years-old and has known me since he was three. I treat him as I would a son. He lives two doors down with his mother who came here from Croatia.

I try to ignore them. I am sure you would have enjoyed walking Horse junior to school. You seem to enjoy his company.

Good thing you were available. Horse Jr does look like vulnerable.

In the first few weeks of school this year, the school where the boy I babysit goes had four reports of creepy people - one was talking to two boys and tried to get them in his van. The boy I watch doesn’t walk home but has special needs and could easily be talked into going with someone if offered a treat. There were many talks about stranger danger.
His 12 year old sister also made a flippant comment about how nothing bad ever happens in the neighborhood as she was heading out the door at dusk to deliver a few school fundraiser packages. Ooooooh we had a long talk.

Definitely walking the kids to school if it was me. Reporting the guy sounds like a good idea too!!

Hopefully he has been reported. I taught all of our kids to kick in the groin and hit the nose as hard as you could with anything you could. Very effective.
