Supplies to make melt and pour soap

United States
November 7, 2019 5:51pm CST
The only things not pictured are the colorant block (I forgot to grab it), the scale (in a different room) and the infared thermometer (has not arrived) Pictured are fragrance oils, 4 lbs of natural melt and pour soap base, two cutters, two molds and a small mixer. Other things I will need (besides the aforementioned) are rubbing alcohol, a spatula and containers to melt the base in. I have all of those items. The only other thing I may need to get is batteries for the infrared thermometer. The colorant I chose is a purple called purple galaxy. I probably have more than enough soap base, and I believe I have more than enough fragrance oil. The fragrance oils are not all the same type. I will either use the rosemary mint or the peppermint to scent the soap. Do you do any crafting? *Sorry the picture is a little grainy, I resized it before sending to my email.

Sounds like you are well prepared! That color sounds nice, the galaxy purple. My crafting is making jewelry

How is that going for you? I haven't heard you talk about it much. I am sure I'll take pictures of the soap when i do make it. It won't be until after I get the infrared thermometer.

@MommyOfEli2013 Ah, I understand you having to put bracelet making aside. It's more important to earn money, especially with you having a young son. Is that browser still working for you?

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have been trying to earn money on a new site, so I haven't had the time to work on bracelet making lately! That's good to hear about getting pictures, but I understand about waiting till then.

@Tina30219 One my friends is only 25 minutes down the road. Another one is about an hour and a half. We hardly, if ever, get together.

I think the purple galaxy will be a great choice. I can picture it in my head. When do you plan to make this soap?

Well, I have to have it ready by December 15th. I am thinking I will probably make it in December, maybe earlier if I get anxious to do it. This doesn't have to cure so as soon as it hardens it will be good to be used. I need to figure out how to package it, I thought about going to the dollar tree and looking for treat bags to put them in.

@ScribbledAdNauseum oh that’s a great idea. If your near Walmart I am sure in their craft or baking section you could find decorative bags to put them in.

@shaggin Walmart is another good idea. Yes, I live near a walmart but I hardly, if ever, go. I may go this week but am not sure. I do like their cheddar broccol pasta salad. As an aside, I've been watching youtube videos of dollar tree crafts and dollar tree gift basket ideas. I might just do one of them for a family member, not quite sure though.

You look like you're ready to start making your soaps. I like your choice of scents. My crafting is crocheting

I wish I could crochet. I tried it, I really did, but it was the tension thing for me. I was a bit better at loom knitting but I'd forget the stitch or still not be so good with tension. You remind me, I should probably text and ask if one of my friends is allergic to peppermint...

@Marty1 My mom could crochet but she couldn't teach me by the time I wanted to learn, her hands wouldn't stay still enough to do it. My aunt ended up teaching me. Tension relates to the way you are holding your yarn and how tight the stitches you are making are. That's probably not the best definition of it. I had trouble with making my stitches too tight or too loose.

@Marty1 Yep, that's pretty much it!

I am sure there are things you can still do. My mom used to craft all the time, though she had to stop doing needlecraft because of her hands.

@Nakitakona They would need to smell good though, wouldn't they? I've not yet met a person who wanted to scent themselves in something awful.

nice! I am very interested and now I am trying to search if there are available supplies here in my country

I am sure you'll be able to find it somewhere. You have access to amazon? I know amazon sells the stuff. There are a lot of different types of melt and pour bases, I picked one that was the most natural.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have not try amazon yet. I shall see if I can and also for the local online stores if they have some supplies

@rakski A lot of times local is better. I do not use amazon as much as I used to. In fact, I only really use amazon for buying e-books. I hope you're able to find it locally.

I'm not very crafty. I can make some jewelry pieces and a few this and that's but nothing like soap, drawings, sewing, etc.

I am not very crafty either. My mom was very crafty but it's like I didn't get any of that from her. I can think up some really neat ideas, but I can't execute them. I am a little nervous about the soap but I think I'll do fine since i'm only doing one color instead of multiple colors like I had originally thought I might do.

@noni1959 In my research before buying, I came across a kit that was basically cold process but supposedly more simplified? I forget which site I found it on. What I am doing is Melt and Pour which does not have a cure time. As soon as it's hardened it is ready to use.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My mom and even my daughters are very crafty but I'm not. I might try to make soap some day. I have a few recipes I saved in Pinterest that seems easy enough. We'll see when I decide to try it.

I have not colored in a long time. I got rid of all of my supplies minus one thing of gel pens that I kept.

@amitkokiladitya Well, we used to do it on Christmas Eve but I don't think that was going to work for one of them this year. I prefer doing it early anyway, that way I don't have to feel as stressed and rushed.

I found an article on three ways to add scent to a homemade laundry detergent..
Like going granola, but miss the smell of Gain? Here are 3 options for how to add scent to homemade laundry detergent!

@yoalldudes I guess it also depends on how easily you are able to get some of the supplies. The blogger (link I shared) either lives in the US or Canada so the ingredients are a little more accessible.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Thank you for sharing this. I hope it wouldnt skyrocket the cost so much so that it's better to buy off the shelf laundry detergent
