I am going to Alaska

United States
November 11, 2019 9:37am CST
Well no, not this minute. Not even this month. Most definitely not this year. A friend and I have been talking, her and her husband would really like to have a cruise with friends and family. They both know that I would need a little bit longer to save, and so we are thinking about going in a couple of years. None of us have ever been on a plane (to my knowledge) but we'd have to take one to get from home to Seattle, Washington. (or somewhere else in the State of Washington) just to board the ship. Do you vacation with friends?

@FourWalls I would be fine with that. I've only been to West Virginia, Virginia, and South Carolina, other than Ohio that is.

No, mainly just Hubby and me on vacations. Going skiing with several family members at Whistler BC this winter. And we have done that before. I have thought about an Alaskan cruise.

I know there is also cruise that goes around the great lakes and back into Canada. I'd like to do that one sometime I think as well. I am both nervous and excited. I've been on a boat, but never a cruise ship.

@paigea I've heard that cruise ships sail pretty smoothly. My friend's husband wants to go do the Titanic one, but I am not so sure about that. I think I will just petsit for them the week they do that one.

@TiarasOceanView I think I can as well, I just worry about saving towards airfare and forgetting about saving towards something. I'm sure I can talk to my friends and they can help me get a game plan together.

Every penny! I am going to seriously start saving more in one of my savings accounts (that I have for vacationing, actually). With the cruise company, you have to put an amount down and start paying on it.

When I was going to college, my law professor's son had moved to Alaska. His wife didn't like it. Yes, I have went to Las Vegas with my fiance (my first plane ride). I also went with him to Disney World.

I am sure the wife was missing her son. Alaska is so far away, no matter where you are in the US. Was it scary being on the plane at first? I feel like I'll be a bit anxious at first, but then I'll get used to it.

@JESSY3236 To be honest, I will probably take one of my friends nerve pills when it comes time to fly. I don't know that I'd drink or eat anything in flight.

I do not vacation with friends but a trip to Alaska sounds like a good time, I would love to go up there and see all that it has to offer.

@Bensen32 True enough. I don't actually go to many bars or parties that have an open bar. I don't drink much, but going on the cruise I would drink and would have to keep that in mind.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't know anything about that..but I did get to see moose up close..one in the wild..well it was a big park..but the animals weren't confined, and one in a local zoo type setting.

@snowy22315 That's really cool. I've seen videos from a vlogger that used to live in Alaska. He always had them in his yard, and I think he even went to a zoo type place where they let them roam somewhat freely. It would be nice to see one somewhat up close. I also would like to go to a museum up there just to see some of the things from the indigenous peoples.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah it sure is a lot of money it would be nice to win the lottery.

@Tina30219 Wouldn't it though? I would spend some of my lottery winnings on vacationing but the rest would be put in a high yielding savings account or a CD.

It is a lot of money to need to save, but yes I think we will have a load of fun. It will also be the farthest North any of us have traveled. If I had the money (I won't) and a passport I would probably spend a few days in Canada before coming home.

Alaska will probably be my final frontier (that’s right, I’m taking a trip with William Shatner! ). I would really rather take a train to Washington to board the cruise ship. The videos I’ve seen from cruise ships are jaw-dropping....that blue ice, those lovely fjords, the incredible wildlife. Hey, can I go with you? To answer your question, I take solo trips, although I am planning on going to see the USS Alabama with my brother in the spring of next year.

I have thought about taking a train trip across the US, that might have to be a solo trip. I don't know if I'd feel comfortable with doing that so I've been putting off even saving for it. I am all the way in NC. I think flying would probably be faster / easier. I wouldn't be opposed to a train trip all the way to Washington though.

It may not end up happening, but it's something we all want to do. I told her it would be nice if we could get a few other people together to do it. Then we could all do things as couples / separately.

Sorry! Nope, this is a dream but not a sleeping one! My dream last night was so vast that I am not sure if I could really write about it. I don't remember all of it, but what I do remember was really odd! Where all have you been on vacation?
