Messed up my knee doing nothing

So, just like don't shake hands with door jambs … I have learned that you can mess up your knee doing absolutely nothing apparently. About a month ago as I was walking to my car my knee hurt me a little. I wrote it off to aches and pains and figured it would stop after a bit. Well it lasted all day. And the next. And the next. Until now it is quite noticeably sore in the mornings and while it isn't excruciating … I can tell it's there most of the day. So I went to my chiropractor … and he says he thinks it's probably something like tendonitis. But what? I didn't do anything to it! Also I'm supposed to stay off it as much as possible until I know what's up. So, off to my gp dr. - to get a referral to PT or Orthotic specialist. Great. Also I'm nervous. As a larger person I always was happy to say that I keep fairly active. I don't want my weight to balloon now that I have to take it easy. So I think I will watch youtube for some seated exercise videos. And.... don't laugh.... but I have a shake weight... so that can be done, sitting, too. I'm not impressed. At all. But then I think about the grace my mom has and she deals with much more than I … and.... yeah, so... So.... any advice mylot? Seated exercise activities? Advice for an achy knee? Have you had this? Does it get better? Thanks! Photo from Pixabay

I have a knee that bothers me. I wear a bandage on it when I am out walking.

@FayeHazel It depends. Sometimes it will bother me for weeks at a time and other times I will have relief for months. Its strange. I never know when it is just going to give out.

Bandage is a good idea. I hope yours doesn't bother too much

You may be lacking in calcium, so your joints are hurting. But if weight is at stake, then you should slowly start exercising.

Oh that's a good thought. I hadn't thought to have had my calcium checked. I was looking at some exercise that you can do seated today

I have damaged my back in the past by sleeping.

@FayeHazel This is some time back - I've since caused worse damage to my back, but at least that was done by lifting a heavy object at an awkward angle.

I'm afraid I'm very much of the 'unless it's too painful to even walk on I'm just going to grit my teeth and exercise through the pain' school of thought, so I'm probably not much help. Sorry.

@FayeHazel Making things worse is certainly something I've done in the past but I never learn!!

Ah I admire your grit. It's not so much the pain that gets me - but the idea I don't want to make it worse Thanks anyway :-)

@FayeHazel Tendonitis is no fun. Something must have happened and you just do not remember what it was. I do not when something happens to me unless I remember what happened. I hope you have a good physical therapist or Orthopedist to tell you what you should do not. I want to share something with you so does not happen to you. I lfett in the bathroom trying to climb a step ladder to deal with a shower curtain. I felt into the bathtub on my right side. The doctor I went to said not to do anything for 3 weeks. That did it.I will finish in a private message.

@FayeHazel It was very scary and the doctor should have been retired. I hope the physical therapy helps your knee. Since it is even mild arthritis could it come?

Thanks! Actually got xrays done and turns out it's mild arthritis. I'm not thrilled about that. But I think it can be dealt with. Physical therapy on Monday... Oh my! That is scary about hanging up your shower curtain. Bad, scary fall. THanks for the warning. I will look for the private message, but I do hope you had no lasting ill effect from that

I am afraid that I am not a big help but if you cure your knee quickly you can go back to your usual exercises.

It can happen to many parts of our bodies unfortunately. Feel better, ice usually helps.
