Something Interesting About My Blind Cousin

The past year or so I have been talking on the phone often to my cousin. She is blind. She and I take turns calling my sweet uncle. We are first cousins with a big age difference. I was not around her a lot growing up.
Still getting to know her. All of this time, we talk about how she cooks, cleans, shops, does all kinds of things. You would forget she is blind after hearing her talk.
I asked her daughter what I could get her for Christmas. I thought maybe scented soaps or perfume.
She cannot smell or taste! I had no idea. Can you imagine being blind, cannot smell or taste? And she never ever complains.
Such an inspiration. Now if I think of complaining about anything, I think of her.
Do you have something or someone that inspires you in your life?

After working with blind people I came to really really admire them. A dear friend of mine passed away last year, he was blind since the age of 7. He was a college professor, worked in a factory after retiring that job and lived alone. He played the bagpipe and marched in bands. Truly inspiring.

That's amazing. I have neighbor across the street that is kind and giving. She lost her husband but is constantly on the go, traveling and being active with her church. She gives me hope that after my husband is gone (God forbid), that I can survive. She does have a big family though which helps.

Wow, that is pretty amazing. I guess perhaps if you don't know what you are mising, you have nothing to complain about.

Wow, it would be hard enough to be blind, but not even able to taste or smell either! Our hunger depends on those two things, I wonder how she's been able to make herself eat enough. You're right, that makes me feel guilty when I complain.

Oh my such a sad case also not being able to smell or taste.
Yes we must not complain.
Yes some speakers motivational inspire me but they are not personally known to me.
All my real life inspiration is gone now Mama and Dad RIP but I do draw on what they gave me when they were alive.

Hi Carol. She’s inspiring. She doesn’t allow her handicap to get the best of her. My parents inspire me. I can’t imagine my life not having them around.

She is amazing and real inspiration. I work with children and adults with special needs and many are real heroes.
Why she doesn't have sense of taste or smell?? I have not come across any such thing or heard or read about it.

I only imagine how hard it is to be blind and even not able to taste or smell. Everything is different, everything looks so dark... She must be a very strong woman.

Wow! Being born with only 2 senses. That is amazing!
I do have someone who is an inspiration to me. My youngest nephew who is now in his 20's. He was born with Downs Syndrome but he is also dwarfed and cannot walk. He has had 2 open heart surgeries since infancy. His doctors kept telling his parents (my brother and his wife) to not expect him to live, but he has defied all of their predictions. He had a tumultuous ride growing up including a collapsed lung and having to breathe and be fed through tubes. Now he lives without the tubes and is breathing and eating on his own. He is one tough kid.
