It Made Me Cry

Thank you, Denise. Your kindness made me cry. The past 24 hours has been rather trying in the world of the VA and I. Our relationship is like that listing on Facebook: “It’s complicated.” Without going into too many gory details, the VA wanted some paperwork from me (after only six years of my sending them paperwork). I had a statement written and ready to go when I went to the DAV (which acts as my representative/counselor when I have to deal with the pain in the A side of the VA). The problem was that I had it on my phone, but no way to print it off. The counselor at the DAV said that I could probably get it printed at the UPS store in the building. So, off I went. While I was sending it the second time (the first time I sent it in the Apple word processor [Pages] format, and they couldn’t open it), I realized my wallet was in my car. All I had with me to pay for the copies was my credit card. And, yes, I really do not like making a company pay 2% credit card convenience fees for a dollar’s worth of copies. Denise, the counter clerk at the store, was undaunted. “That’s okay,” she assured me when I told her all I had was my Discover card. After she printed everything out and handed it to me I went for the credit card reader. “I’m not going to charge you anything for this,” Denise said. “Thank you for your service.” Yep, it made me cry. I’m getting soft in my old age. “Do your deeds without a price Someone will pay you back”

Yes, as we get older, we do get "softer". It was a nice gesture.
