Adding Sunflower Seeds to the Peanuts

Trying to attract more cardinals to the feeder. I know they really like striped sunflower seeds. They also like the peanuts, like the blue jays. Headed out later to run errands. I will pick up a bag of the seeds to mix in with the peanuts. Then hopefully, as they say, build them and they will come. Put seeds out, and the cardinals will appear. Trying to keep the other birds away, the sparrows especially. If not, they will return in the spring and may run off the bluebirds again. I have to be careful, as much as possible. Once it stays cold, I should see all kinds of birds, like this blue jay in January of this year in the photo. I enjoy seeing the backyard birds. Every year I see a different type of bird. Gotta get the ice out of the bird bath again today.

I had no idea that birds like peanuts! Maybe one day I can spoil them.

@CarolDM I would have never thought of feeding birds peanuts until I read your post. Thank you for sharing!

@Nakitakona Many factors. Weather, food source elsewhere maybe. They come and go.

Here in the winter we don't see many birds as most fly south.

@CarolDM no I see them around but most breeds fly south so we just get Crows and a few others. In the summer I see ones of just about every color.

If you put out peanuts and seeds you probably would.

Nice. It's awesome you attract a variety of birds. I didn't know that sparrows would spook off other birrds

I love seeing the birds. Sparrows are pests that kill the bluebirds, they are not welcome in my yard.

It is really nice to see the birds eating the seeds you put for them. The one on the photo looks so beautiful.
