Zip Ties Not Just for Handcuffs Any More

Watching a lot of episodes of Dateline and 48 Hours always makes me think of handcuffs when I hear the word zip ties. I know, sounds crazy to many of you probably. Keeping it real. Yesterday I found another use for these handy gadgets. I moved the seed bird feeder in the garden to Dustin's bench. But with the wind, I had to figure out a way to secure it, without drilling holes. Zip ties! They work perfectly. All secure and just waiting on the birds now. What about you, care to share other hand dandy uses for zip ties?

We have them but hardly use them. My brother used to use them to ziptie plastic milk crates together to make a shelf.

@CarolDM My friend uses them to help secure things to the trailer when she's going camping.

@CarolDM this isn’t what I see in your photo? With these I think you’d still need to drill holes.

@shaggin Point made. My husband just told me the zip ties didn't work, not long enough. These are like bungie cords, kind of, a tie down. My bad. Thanks for keeping me straight.

As you know by now, what you have is a bungee cord, they do come in handy. I did use one to keep a piece of siding from breaking during a hurricane a few years ago, worked great. I also use them to keep a tarp on my riding lawn mower. zip ties also come in handy, years ago one of the brackets holding my radiator broke and the radiator fell down. So I used a couple of zip ties to hold it up. I drove it like that for years. I also put a zip tie through the hole in my house key, works like a charm, I no longer have to guess which key goes to my front door. I know now out of all the keys on my keychain the one with the zip tie goes to my front door.

@CarolDM Oh yea, the only thing about bungee cords is if there used outside, I don't know why, but it seems like they start to fall apart. I've had to replace the ones holding the tarp because of this.

Nothing that I can think of other than bunching cords together so that they aren't so messy.

Zip ties are always those things that you never think you need but so happy to have when you need them. We used them on a few things. I remember they were the reason why our fences were staying up for a while.

Very clever. Since I live in the countryside, we often have to use multiple things for different purposes.

My husband and our son love zip ties, they are like the modern stronger version of duct tape. They use them for so many things.

Ha ha yes I think the same as you just about every time I use one (we call them cable ties). I have some securing different sections of my chicken fence together, and attaching a basket and lamp holders to my bicycle. And holding the netting to the fruit cage frame.

if you've ever been around tuner car people like I have, you'll see that half of their cars are held together with zip ties I've also used one with slits cut in it to unclog a bathtub drain and one as a hair tie in a pinch
