Shredding Party!!!!

There are things that happen when you pay the house off. One of them is that the junk mail (ahem, "business bulk mail") asking if you want to refinance mysteriously disappears. The other is that all of those old contracts need to go. And, in today's world, you can't just shove three pounds of paper into the recycling bin. No, it has to be fed to the shredder. So, tonight, with Joe Walsh blaring in the background (his 72nd birthday was yesterday, and how'd he get so old??????), I had a shredding party. CHOMP! There went the second mortgage. CHOMP!! There went the paperwork for the refinance from (mumbling) years ago. CHOMP!!! All the things that said I owed money are gone. What remains? The deed, and a letter from the credit union saying the lien on the house has been removed and the house is solely mine, free and clear. (Well, "free" as much as the annual property taxes and homeowners insurance allow....) Eventually the shredder got tired of eating, meaning other things that've been around the house for 20+ years will need to be shredded later. But the shredding party was a lot of fun, and one of the joys of home ownership after 30 years of mortgage! A little appropriate John Hiatt song:
From a Hiatt bootleg DVD called "Dusty Old Tapes".

I have to admit being a little disappointed that this wasn't a snowboarding article.

that sounds like a lot of fun. I think we are going to move before we have a shredding party.

Oh, it did. The best feeling was when I got the deed release notice in the mail, though. It's like that's THE proof, more than the fact that nobody's knocking on my door when I don't make a payment.

What, like I called John Hiatt and said, “hey, could you slip a line about an Eagles reunion in one of your songs?”???????

You must be doing a huge happy dance at the moment. I remember when we eventually paid off our house. Good for you.
