Injury on nose

You know I have a lot of cats. I try to restrict them from certain areas. Other areas they are allowed in for a short time. By short, I mean not free access to an area - like my front room a/k/a a living room. I have to restrict access because some of them have bad habits. So, yesterday (Nov 20th 2019) I went to put one of them out. She turned around and flailed. I had to actually pull her claw out of my nose... Yes it bled - a lot. Yes it hurts - not extremely bad unless I touch it or the area around it. I am keeping an eye on it, but have to cover it with a bandaid because I have to wear my reading glasses to see - don't ya just love getting old?

I have a lot of scars myself. You can't see the scar under my eye from where another cat got me.

@nanette64 yeah, I only ever declawed one, and that was because he attacked people and other cats. I currently have 2 declawed cats, but they came that way.

@ElicBxn I guess we just love the little stinkers so much; we put up with it. I refuse to have a cat declawed. People do not understand the horrific pain that is. They do not just remove the claw; they remove the joint leading up to the claw.

I haven't allowed my cats to do that to me but then I only have 2 of them right now. So far so good.

Well, "allow" isn't really the right term. If I had known she was going to flail like she did I wouldn't have picked her up.

@rebelann I knew she wasn't much on getting picked up, but she hadn't ever done that flailing around quite as much as she did Wednesday.

I didn't know what that was a picture of until I read that it was your nose. Been a while. How are things in Austin?

Yeah, right up at the bridge, right where glasses sit... Also, yeah, for whatever reason, myLot is working again for me, at least for now. Austin is okay, I guess. The wife is coming home from rehab later today, lets just hope she gets to stay home this time!

@BarBaraPrz - she didn't come home... they are keeping her until Tuesday, if they let her go then!

@ElicBxn That's too bad. I'm sure she'd feel better at home.

I wore the bandaid a few days, and then it stopped hurting. It is still a bit tender to the touch, but nothing like the first day or so. I also got a small sore on a finger. Two days of pain, the second way worse than the first and then nothing. Its been less than a full week and it is well on the road to a full recovery. I've never healed this fast!

Ouch, have you applied an ointment or a disinfectant? The claws of the cats can be infected.

I went and washed it ASAP. I did put an antibiotic ointment on it a bit later. I looked for some, but ended up having to borrow some from the roommate.

@LadyDuck the nose is sore, but right now I don't even have a bandaid on it, I'm just putting the glasses on the nose gently.

@ElicBxn You did the right thing to use an antibiotic ointment, I did the same when the cat scratched my arm, I had a bad cut.

It is where the cat's nail caught the side of my nose, near my eye.

Oh,you had better have a shot against rabies, sometimes a cat also carries such a virus.

Rabies is from a bite, not a scratch - that's cat scratch fever. However, Onyx is an inside only cat so I'm not worried about that either.

She's just not that friendly a cat. Not UNfriendly, just not too friendly. Pretty much, she'll come over and I can pet her, but what she wants is to go out of the room. However, if you had Flower, you'd restrict her movements too.

@ElicBxn the resident cat 'tis a tad choosy 'bout whom 'n when she's friendly. the 1st 5 yrs 'f her life, she'd rip ya a new'un if'n ya tried to pet 'r 'ttempt to pick her'p. now, she's a lap warmer. not sure what changed? critters dislike confinement, their curiosity jest too high.

It was a nail in the nose, not a tooth. I would be more concerned about a bite, but I looked at it last night and it doesn't look a lot worse.

@ElicBxn That is horrible to have her claw in your nose. She sounds like a mean one. I hate getting old. I hope it clears up soon. I can feel your pain. That is awful.

She really isn't mean, she's just not one to be picked up. I knew this, but I wanted to put her out of the room. The good news is that it is not feeling too painful now, unless I touch it. Even the glasses don't hurt anymore, so long as I put them ON gently.

@ElicBxn I understand that she did not want to leave the room and that is how it happened. I am glad it is not too painful now.
