Bracing for a super storm

My comfort zone is being threatened, a super storm is about to unleash its power on the islands, specifically the Bicol Region. Metro Manila is already under signal # 2, meaning classes are already suspended. There is something worrisome when two advisement buzz on one's mobile phone about the super storm. First, the past months had really been dry, a reason to expect a powerful storm when it comes. Second, the people now know what a deluge is, from Ondoy, and what a devastation is, from Yolanda - two typhoons that did test the mettle of the Filipino spirit. Charge your phones now, buy your bread, and ready the matches and the candles. It might be a long, dark night. Above all else - pray.

I am making last minute preparations, seeing to it that everything is secured and fastened. We have solar power that can charge 18650 batteries, power banks ,cellphones, small fans, my 2 way radio, run my DC pump for the aquarium, power my small transistor radio and power the wifi modem, lights inside and outside the house My only problem is cooking since I didn't buy lpg gas anymore and are fully dependent on induction cooking, refrigeration is another problem. Prayer is the most important thing above all the preparations, God bless the Philippines and stay safe everyone.

Impressive preparation. That's the scout! Hmmm, food is a problem in your case but let's hope our concerns does not come to that. I always have plenty of ice in my freezer. That will suffice, in case the electricity shuts down. We could live with bread and cheese. Keep alert, the super storm could be traitorous.

@eileenleyva I have weeks supply of canned goods, first aid and medical supplie, flour, sugar, honey and beans. We have an outdoor grill in the backyard but it might not be safe to go out besides it would be damp because of the rain my only problem is just to heat some of my stash. I can manage to live on anything if cooking rice is not possible, bread, biscuit, potato, banana, even kamote or sweet potato, cassava etc... I also have weeks supply of water incase supply gets contaminated, I'm a practical prepper not a doomsday one

@louievill That is good. Always be prepared, especially if people tend to depend on you. I, on the other hand, cannot subsist on canned goods. Hu hu. I get excruciating cramps whenever I eat corned beef or spam, canned tuna and sardines, and so on. That means, I have eggs and fish, chicken and vegetables, plus bread, milk and cheese, and fruits - papaya and naranghita. My doggy has spare ribs and chicken liver. For prospective guests if the storm gets dangerous,I could cook arroz caldo for them, or sinigang, The Go-Bag is in the trunk of the car, with medical supplies and shirts. Okay, let's pray na.

I also remember Ondoy because that was the first flood that entered our home.

If ever the Angat fills to the brim, NDRRMC advised, water will be released. Expect flooding. Ondoy had a different rain sound - almost like one is in a cave.

@Alexandoy I think they have to protect the SEA Games @ Clark.

@eileenleyva it's ironic that we are experiencing water interruptions at night for the reason of the low water level in Angat dam. And now there is a warning of an overflow.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Ohhh. So the tongue twister 'the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain,' is true. Ha ha. Now I know. Thanks once again. A typhoon is really dampening to the spirit. A few years back, a super typhoon once devastated an entire province called Samar. The people were reduced to zombie-like existence. But now they have recovered.

@eileenleyva I can“t know how it feels to be in such a big storm although we have some very big ones here too at times. Stay safe and may all homes and people be protected.

I heard it a while ago, though there is no rain yet nor wind. I am praying that it will be less stronger and will leave our country in a blink of an eye. The sky is eerie quiet which makes it worrisome.

I was out this morning, the skies are gloomy. Wind was gentle at the hospital that is full of people. Perhaps the people are thinking the same - the no class day is an opportunity for check-up. Your thoughts could be true. That is the case when quiet comes before the storm - the storm could be a killer. Ingat.

@rakski Just as I brought out the garbage at a quarter past seven, today, Tuesday, being garbage collection day, the first wind from the super storm greeted me with some rain droplets. Yes, there's a strange characteristic with this storm that we are not used to, and am as apprehensive as you are, hoping none damaging can befall us. Mandatory evacuation has been up, and I am worrying more for the people by the bay, there is no escaping surges. Let's pray more.

@eileenleyva thank you. Stay safe also. It started raining here at 730am but not that strong and hopefully do not get stronger. But it is worrisome because the airport will close at 10am so given that fact, it might get stronger especially the wind

Keep safe, Ms. Eileen. Been praying these past days that God spare our country from the approaching storm which they say is a super storm. Has the archbishop or bishop given instructions to the priests to pray the Oration Imperata at mass?

Thank you. I have secured my premises, my doggy, too. The wind has not come but I think the Bicol Region is already experiencing a lashing. Missed the Monday Mass. I was sent on another errand. Said my Rosary and the Oratio Imperata. I join my school group for prayers. Gosh,m I wish Meralco won't cut power.

Hi Eileen. We're also preparing for the worst here. I hope this super typhoon won't cause too much damage. We've been through a lot these past few days.

Radio advice not comforting. But brace your self for heavy rain and floods. Will monitor television reports, evacuation might be necessary for many barangays.

@eileenleyva I think so too. I hope this isn't as devastating as Yolanda and Ondoy.
