Dear 1 person waiting

United States
December 3, 2019 7:58am CST
I see you there, vigilantly waiting until the book gets returned and you are able to borrow it. I know you must check periodically to see if it's available yet. I know your pain. You've found it, you think it sounds like a book you'd love to read, and you're anxious to get started. I understand that struggle. I'm here to tell you that I read a few chapters each day, and I am trying to read it as fast as I can. I think you'll enjoy it. I certainly know I have. Just be patient a little longer, I have around 150 pages to go and then it will be yours to read. Sincerely, The person currently reading the book you have on hold. **I just thought I'd start the day off with a silly discussion. While there are lots of people who anxiously await a new episode of their favorite show, I am the type to anxiously await a new book from a favorite author. Or, in general, await a book order, the next time I can go to the thrift store etc. How is your day so far? Do you prefer to read, or are you a t.v. watcher? Do you listen to any podcasts?

Same here! In fact, I'd say I watch the most television when at a friend's house. Her husband loves to watch television and so I'll sit there and watch it. I would read, but I can't read when there is noise in the background.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That's about the only time I watch TV as well. I do watch one show online, though.

@BarBaraPrz I used to keep up with Mountain Men but I don't do that anymore. I do watch American Horror Story every time it comes out though. Don't get me wrong, the shows my friend's husband watches are great and I'd probably watch them too, but I just don't turn on the television often. When I do turn on the t.v., it's to go to youtube. I prefer to visualize the characters myself and the setting as well.

I love this discussion!!! I've been that person waiting and also the person reading while someone else is waiting. The last book I read was from the library and now my daughter is reading it before it has to go back. I love to read and I'm an avid tv watcher. Reading is my quiet time while tv I can crochet while I watch so I don't feel as if I'm just sitting in front of the tv.

@Marilynda1225 We have to renew ours every three years now. I have had about three. One when i was a child, another when I was a young adult and then again now. I like to own my books, but I think this is a good way to read new books without necessarily spending any money. Though I feel like I'll end up buying a few that I do read.

I've just recently started using the library again. It had been so long that I had to get a new library card. I plan to just use the e-library for now, but maybe I'll borrow physical copies of books in the future. My mom used to crochet but I was so young that I don't remember if she did so while watching the telvision.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I need to get a new library card too. Right now I'm using my daughters . Like you it's been so long since I borrowed a book my card needs to be renewed. But I still like to own my books either physical ones or downloaded.

I am reading a new (to me) book now by Greer McCallister. I'd like to get finished with it before the weekend where I probably won't pick out another book to read. This weekend is cookie / gift exchange day so I won't have time to read, unfortunately.

@Tina30219 Maybe you could plan it one year and take a bus or train to them instead. That would be a fun little gathering. Maybe you could make it into a weekend adventure of shopping and sight seeing too.

Yes, it can be hard to find time to read books. I find that I can only sneak an hour or so a day, sometimes less.

@amitkokiladitya Oh yes, I understand that completely. That is why I am on here. I have decided to try to be on here several times a day. I have other small tasks that earn me money as well, and I do those throughout the day. I am near to paying off one debt and I want to get it finished by next month.

I get into stints where I watch more t.v. than I read as well. I hope you have a good day. I just got back from doing part of my Christmas and my grocery shopping.

Haha nice. I never get books from the library and I’m not sure why. But I do like to buy random books from the thrift shops. You never know what you will find!

I agree with you, thrift book shopping is so fun and you find some real gems sometimes. I try to never judge a book by it's cover because some of the best thrift store books have had the ugliest covers. I am only using the libraries e-book service.

I've finally started using the library again, atleast the e-library and there are several books that I would have borrowed but I would have to wait. Instead of doing that, I just found one I could read right away and didn't bother putting myself on the list of holds.

I much prefer reading but have recently got into podcasts particularly when I'm driving. My current favourite podcasts are Bill Burr, Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson. Entertaining and thought provoking in equal measures. Much better than TV.

I am subscribed to several podcasts but haven't sat down to really listen to them. One I do intend to binge is called Lore and it covers some of the more grotesque parts of history.

@WorDazza I agree with you there. I actually may be getting a bluetooth speaker from a friend for Christmas. This, I think, will allow me to listen to the podcasts while I do other things about the house.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The trouble these days is there is just so much stuff out there it's impossible to get the time to listen to everything that looks interesting.

I never go to the library any more but, sadly, I do wait for the next episode of certain tv shows. I should read more. Can't seem to focus long enough.
