My first try : a success and failure

I tried my hand at making something I've never made before. I made a Sweet Potato pie.
A while back I was looking at Duck Dynasty's web site and seen they have some recipes on there. For anyone that don't know, Duck Dynasty is a TV series that used to come on about a family owned business that makes products for duck hunters, mainly duck calls. His wife Kay is the one that posted the recipes.
I finally pulled out the recipe since I had bought some sweet potatoes that other day. I do have to say that the pie was real good, it was not over powered with all the seasoning. Since I forgot to buy a pie shell, I made my own. Now that didn't turn out so great, I don't think I rolled it out enough. Heck to tell the truth, I didn't know how to make a pie shell. I followed a recipe, but you know how that goes sometimes. If I ever make another pie I will make sure to buy a pie crust.
The pie taste good enough though, that I was thinking I might trying following this recipe but instead use pumpkin to make a pumpkin pie.

I never had sweet potato pie, but since I like how sweet potato tastes, I would try it out.
I don't like pumpkin, and neither the pumpkin pie, though.

@sweetashoney My mother cooks a lot of things, maybe I could ask her to try the sweet potato pie, too.

Your pie sounds good. My aunt always made sweet potato pies instead of pumpkin. I can't make a decent pie crust so I use the frozen ones.

They are real good to me. A lot of the same seasoning that go into a pumpkin pie are in a sweet potato pie.

I think one of the reasons mine was a flop was because I didn't have any plain flour and so I used self rising. I might try making it again someday when I have plain flour and see if it turns out any better.
