Are values taught or caught?

In the society we observe how people interact with other, how they treat among themselves. Their behavior reflects of what kind of a person they are.
This is where values are being manifested or practiced. How polite they are. How courteous they are. How considerate they are or even religious.
Therefore the values of being courteous, of being polite, of being considerate are observable behavior among the people in the society. Practically it should start at home. Like kindness begins at home. Generosity, helpful, trustworthiness, among others.
In simple terms, values are caught not taught. What can you say about it?

According to our Psychology professor in college, the behavior of the person depends on so many things but primary are the upbringing at home, education, friends and many other factors.

But by experience what the parents are teaching to their children are usually fallen into the deaf ears of the children.

We learn from what our parents teach us. We learn from what we are taught in school. We learn from observing what others do. We learn from reasoning on what we hear and what we see. In the end, we are what we want to be and we do what we want to do.
