Have problems opening and using Word and Excel

I was mylotting when all of a sudden I blue screen popped up letting me know that my PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.
Not sure if it is related or not but after my laptop restarted and I went to open Microsoft Excel I ran into a problem.
I got a pop up that said:
Something went wrong. We're sorry but we ran into an error and couldn't start your program. Please try starting your program again, or use the Repair option from the Programs and Features item in your Control Panel if it still won't start.
I tried to open Microsoft Word. It is telling me that I need to Activate Office and to do that I need to enter the email address that is associated with my Office subscription. I have no idea what the heck Office subscription is but I entered my email address and then the password. After that I got a pop up message saying: Sorry we ran into a problem while trying to install a product key. If this keeps happening you should try repairing your office product. I clicked the 'repair now' button and get the same pop up window.
There was an option to enter the product key instead of the email address but I don't know where to get that info. I don't remember how I originally installed Office, like if it was an actual CD or if it was online.
I restarted my laptop and tried opening both programs again. And I get the same issue. Instead of opening both programs I also tried just opening a specific Word and Excel files. They opened and I was able to sorta use the programs but then they closed.
Anyone know why this could have happened and how to fix this issue? Maybe I should try the Repair option in the Control Panel. I am hesitant to do it though. What if that will uninstall Office? I don't want that to happen.

As far as msdivkar said about getting a yearly subscription for Office, you are much better off to purchase it outright if that's what you need. As far as your other problems, I hope this doesn't mean that your computer is dying or infected with a virus. How old is your computer? Do you have an anti-virus program installed?

@lovebuglena Can you restore your computer back to a date when you weren't having a problem? You would need a backup of your files before you do that.

@LindaOHio There have been instances where I am doing something on my laptop and all of a sudden I get that blue screen that tells me my pc ran into a problem and needs to restart but nothing ever not worked after that. Only issue I have and it has nothing to do with this is screen flickering on and off all of a sudden or things being slow or not working when I switch my Lenovo to tablet mode.

When it comes to problems on my personal computer, I don't take any chances. I take it straight in to the computer repair shop and let the professionals deal with it. I would rather pay and have it done right than to try and fumble through it myself.

@lovebuglena Sometimes it's hard to sift through all those forums to find the exact information you are looking for. I've been trying to do that over the past day for an issue I'm having with my truck, trying to find out what information is available out there in the forums.

@moffittjc I ended up chatting with microsoft live chat and the guy told me to uninstall office using a specific tool, which I downloaded and then reinstall Office. Seems to have worked. I haven't really tried using the apps but when I opened Word and Excel it didn't tell me that I need to activate it.
