A glitch with face recognition access on phones

A niece on Vince’s side of the family has twin boys who are now about 17 or 18. They are identical and have been very difficult to tell apart. They get along reasonably well but mostly live separate lives as far as friends and activities go. Continually being mistaken for each other irks them no end and they now have totally different hair-styles in an effort to be ‘different’ from one another. However, one was exceedingly irked when, after getting a phone that can use face recognition to gain access, they discovered that either boy could gain access in this way. I don’t know what, if anything, can be done about this. And this is my 2,100 post. Wow! Who’d a thought? The photo shows the twins as ‘little tackers’ – is that a term you know for ‘children’?

Sounds cool, boyfriends phone has a finger print recognition which is too bad coz I can’t access his phone anymore.

That's a shame that you can't access his phone anymore.

@JustBhem I have problem with fingerprint recognition. My fingerprint are not recognizable in some cases like in out biometric machine and even at the government kiosks. Maybe because I have sweaty hands.

I dated a girl in college who had an identical twin. I'm pretty sure they switched places on me a few times on dates. There is usually something that can distinguish between any two twins, but for the life of me I never could tell these two girls apart.

@JudyEv There were times when I was suspicious, but couldn't exactly prove it. I just figured if they wanted to switch, that was their prerogative. It just meant that I got to date two beautiful girls at once! haha

@moffittjc I wonder if they ever fought over which one went out with you - or which one drew the short straw! That wasn't very kind. I'll withdraw that remark but leave it there for you to, hopefully, laugh at!

That would have been a funny feeling especially if you got wind that they'd switched but couldn't be sure.

In an attempt to protect phones from hackers they're using things like facial recognition which usually works except in the case of identical twins .... I'll bet if they used iris recognition instead it might just prove a better option for those two.

I think so too. Maybe that will be the next step.

I'm sure it will be given the many security measures used by high end corps that use that kind of tech @JudyEv

Would iris identification work for them. I remember years ago when two twins boys were arrested for a murder and the dna could not separate them so both of them were let go. One got away with murder. One left the state.

I suppose this is one of those problems that the system designers didn't anticipate! Congrats, I not sure that I have even reached 200

Congratulations on the 2100th post that is impressive. And no, I have never heard of little tackers but we have several sets of twins in our family.

I never heard that term. But facial does need some work yet. But often twins even have matching DNA so not sure if that can be fixed.

no ma'am, 've ne'er heard 'em called such. what cuties! bet they've grown to be most handsome young fella's. that'd be purty frustatin' fer certain. perhaps they need to get 'em those that use a fingerprint 'nstead? some twins 're thicker'n thieves whilst others jest want to fly 'solo'. i feel fer 'em, bein' mistaken fer someone else 'tis not the best feelin' sometimes.

The worst part was when a girl declined to go to a school ball with one but went with the other. That would have been tough for the rejected one.

@judyev Oh I am pleased that technology has been thwarted in this way. It's so good to know that clever people aren't as clever as they like to think they are. I'm just content knowing that I'm not clever.

There is some subversive pleasure to be had in knowing that the know-it-alls don't quite know-it-all.
