We're becoming very predictable

In a previous life, as in when he first left school, my husband worked in a bank. He remembers facts and figures quite well mostly and I asked him today when decimal currency came to Australia. As I knew he would, he immediately launched into a ditty about the 14th of February, 1966. This was an advertisement which was played over and over on the radio in the months eading up to the introduction of decimal currency. I don’t recall it really but he knew it by heart. I teased him, saying he was getting SO predictable. Often, I know what he is going to say in answer to a particular question. I’m no better. I guess after 48 years of marriage it’s to be expected that our partners become ‘predictable’. And, of course, at times he still surprises me. Photo is of one of a 1927 florin - well before decimal currency.

They often joke that people who have been together for long periods of time can read each other's minds, and often finish each other's thoughts and sentences without even realizing they are doing it.

@JudyEv Has anyone ever told you that they think you and Vince have a resemblance to each other? I've heard that after couples have been together for long periods of time, they start to look like each other.

@moffittjc I guess it could be worse. Some start to look like their pets. I do think we look alike in this photo.

What is decimal currency? I'm not familiar with it. It's good you know each other's habits well.

@JudyEv Okay, I feel foolish. I'm so used to it I don't think about it and never heard it referred to as decimal currency.

@just4him Don't worry. I thought you would know what it was once it was explained. It was a big deal when it was first introduced into Australia.

It's dollars and cents and everything revolving around 10. We used to use the British system of pounds, shillings and pence - 12 pennies to a shilling, 20 shillings to a pound, etc.

I remember 'D Day' in the UK. I think I would now struggle converting to £SD!

We got drilled in primary school with pounds, shillings and pence. Decimal is certainly easier in that respect.

I heard a saying that after two decades of marriage, couples start looking alike more like a siblingWell I am into my 20th year of marriage. Your Golden Jubilee Year is fast approaching

I'm not sure. I guess you both need to be willing to compromise and keep communicating. And loving each other.

@cool83 I had to try to work out why we're still together. That's why I was not sure. And it's hard to say but I think we both try to be kind to the other and take the other person's wishes into consideration.

YES! After 48 years your partner becomes predictable. I sometimes stop in time before asking a question because I already know that I will get a boring lengthy reply.

Having dealt with figures a lot, Vince is pedantic about some things. If I say it's five kilometres, he'll say it 4.78. Well, that's an exaggeration but you know what I mean!

Vince collected coins for a while with a view to selling them later but there isn't much demand for them at the moment.
