Do you knit or crochet?

My grandmother crocheted blankets for my sister and I back when we were young teenagers. I STILL have that blanket like 30 years later. It has gone through the washing machine many times and it still is in perfect condition. I put it on my bed in winter when it gets cold in the bedroom. I also used to use it during the summer when the AC kept the room cold. My sister has knit me 2 blankets in the past 15+ years. One of them I always kept on the back of the couch at the house and the other was folded over the arm of the couch. My sister was HORRIFIED at the condition that one of the blankets was in. She used larger knitting needles when she made it so everything was looser and there were a few loopy snags in the blanket. I still kept it because it was a gift of love from my sister. The other one that she made with smaller needles is still in perfect condition. When she helped to move me back in April she was upset to see the 2 blankets and told me that she would make me a new one for Christmas. She has been working on it since the summer. So I know what at least part of my Christmas present from her will be. I will be very happy to have another blanket made by her. Do you knit or crochet? Do you make gifts for family and friends?

Before the arthritis got so bad in my hands I did all kinds of needlework. I used to love doing needlepoint. I used to make quite a few things for family.

No, I can't do that kind of stuff. I am not talented with my hands. The only thing I have ever made are latch hook, rugs, but there is no real talent or skill with that.

I have tried to loom knit and crochet but I was not good at either of those. I would love a blanket like that for Christmas. I made soap for friends this year. My mom used to crochet but I didn't get any of her crocheted afghan's. I think she had one or two left and they were either thrown out or someone else took them when she passed away. Do you know what stitch or stitches she did on your afghans?

@NJChicaa That sort of sounds like the popcorn stitch, but I could be wrong. I thin that's the most popular stitch for blankets other than granny square's.

I have no idea. One of them is just a straight "purl" I think. The other looks like boxes where the yarn goes in one direction and then the next box it goes the other way. (horizontal/vertical)

When my Mom was living she knitted me an Afghan. It's quite a few years old now but it is one of my prized possessions come wintertime.

I used to do knitting and crocheting, but not anymore because of my fingers. My Mom crocheted a blanket for me decades ago and I still have it. She also made tons of slippers for everyone in the family.

I use to make gifts, but not any more. I made an afghan for my parents, they loved it. I made another afghan for Jay, which he still uses at times. Here's a picture of the one I knit Jay.
