Hi everyone! I'm just popping back on to let you all know we are back home. It was a long drive yesterday as we did not leave the condo until a few minutes past ten o'clock.
We stayed at the Grand Crowne Resort in Branson, MO. This was our second time to stay there. The condos are very nice and spacious. There are 12 buildings of condos which vary from one to three bedrooms. Each condo is complete with a kitchen, dining area, living room and each bedroom has a full bathroom. There is also a half bath in most units. The exception to that is the Penthouse units which have an extra full bathroom.
I will be busy today unpacking and we want to ride around and look at the damage from the tornado. It made a loop around our house. We have a friend that we went to high school with that was injured and also his son. He lived in a trailer which was leveled by the tornado. His son was outside and has staples in his head from cuts of flying material. They lived south of us. There is more damage north of our house. We were told the whole area was out of electricity and would be for days, but we came home to the electricity on. Yay!!

Good that you were away when tornado visited. Hope the damage is not much and serious one. Sorry to know about your friend and his son.

It's always scary when dealing with tornadoes, because they seem to have a mind of their own and can zig-zag along whatever path they want.

@moffittjc That is pretty much how our house was spared with the one that came through here recently.

@kareng It's crazy how they can destroy a whole line of houses, zig-zag around one house leaving it untouched, and then continue on destroying other houses.

Those dang tornadoes have a mind of their own, don’t they. There was one that hit a building near Churchill Downs....didn’t hit anything else to the left or right of it, just went down the middle of the building, making it look like a taco. No one was injured, thank God, and the company relocated quickly. The site of the destroyed building is a parking lot now.

I hadn't heard of it touching down there, but that was the same tornado that made its way up to MS. It broke a record for being on the ground the longest distance; over 60 miles. It looks like it made a loop here and we were inside the loop! Very scary!

@FourWalls Ah, okay. This one also touched down in Alexandria, LA so I thought Lafayette area was also a possibility. I also was thinking Evangeline Downs in Lafayette and not Churchill Downs...crossed the two! Oops!

@kareng -- this wasn't recent. Thankfully, we've had a relatively quiet time since the March 2, 2012 nightmare.

whilst the accommodations sound quite lovely, i fear to me that'd not be a vacation'n the mountains, lol. i wish a speedy recovery fer yer neighbors, hon. most terrifyin' livin' 'n a trailer, i fear e'ery 'ugly' cloud that comes 'round these parts. no place to hide if'n a twister comes. nobody's a basement out'n these parts.
so glad ya didn't get damage 't yer place. yepperz, sounds's though ya timed that trip 'n return jest right!

I wonder why some areas of the U.S. didn't put in basements or cellers? None hardly around here. There is a bookstore in town that has one. It's pretty neat. They actually used it for store space or at least part of it. There was a stairwell that took you down another level so it was deep!

@kareng i'm thinkin' coastal areas'n those with lots 'f moisture 'd 've troubles with 'em leakin'?? i dunno, the hubs promised a shelter here years 'go when a twister got too close fer comfort. i'll die 'fore such comes to be.
sounds like my dad's basement, lol. 'twas a full, finished basement with rooms, huge bathroom. i told him he could'a made the stairs more 'user friendly'. such needed to be repaired due to water seepin' several times 'fore he passed. dunno if'n they e'er got such fixed proper?

Yes, very blessed. I guess it was a good thing we were gone this week since electricity was out for a couple of days. They were still working today on it, but I think they finished up as all trucks left and we didn't see any when we drove around to look at the damage.

Well, yes, but it wasn't much!! My mom would not go out in the cold! We told her on our last day that we were going out to do something so she better gear up for it. I will be posting on that outing soon. I have a mess here in big deep freezer and the refrigerator/freezer that I will need to tackle tomorrow with the hubby's help.

@LindaOHio That was what I didn't know since the electricity was back on when we got home. So far I have cooked some shrimp that was in the freezer and it was okay. Just taking it easy and checking as I want to use it from the freezer.
