Could not fall asleep last night

Last night I had trouble sleeping. I woke up to go pee and then went downstairs to grab some water as I was thirsty. I did not turn on any lights. On the way to the kitchen I almost bumped into my husband who was walking out with a glass of milk and a plate with a huge slice of my birthday cake on it. Apparently, he had trouble falling asleep, and got tired of lying awake with his eyes closed, so decided to eat cake and watch some TV. I did not feel sleepy, so I grabbed a few small palmiers and joined him on the couch. I sat there for a little bit watching Life Below Zero but then went to bed. I could not fall asleep though, probably partly because the TV was on and I could hear it. Instead of just lying there and staring at the wall I decided to read a little. When I was done with my chapter I heard snoring. Went downstairs to check if hubby had fallen asleep. He had. I left him on the couch, turned off the TV, and went back to bed. Now that it was quiet I still could not fall asleep. But then I must have dozed off because the next time I opened my eyes I saw hubby next to me.

We've scared ourselves silly once or twice by getting up in the middle of the night then bumping into each other.

I sometimes wake up at midnight and it takes more than an hour before I could get back to sleep. When that happens now I would do the crossword puzzle to make my eyes tired and I fall asleep faster.

I would have preferred him reading something than going to eat cake and watch tv.

I'm sure cake was probably not the best thing to eat at night when trying to fall asleep, although I would have done the same exact thing as your husband! Nothing drives me crazier than not being able to fall asleep at night. I have days where I am dragging my feet all day long, barely able to keep my eyes open, and then by the time I finally get home and can jump into bed, I'm wide awake. So frustrating! I hope you weren't too tired today from getting so little sleep last night.

@lovebuglena I'm not going to lie, I've made many trips to the kitchen in the middle of the night to raid the refrigerator! What is kefir?

@moffittjc It's kinda like buttermilk but thicker.

Funny enough, shortly after he ate cake he fell asleep because I heard snoring from my bedroom. I went to the living room and he was asleep. There are times when I get up to go pee and then go drink some water because I'm thirsty. And I sometimes do that twice in one night. And while I am at it sometimes the trip to the kitchen for water turns into snack time for me - milk (or kefir) and cookies, or cereal, or milk (or kefir) and a pastry, if I have any...

It sure is. And then when hubby can't sleep and decides to go watch tv, it is even worse because the sound makes it harder to fall asleep.

The cake sounds like a great idea.
