Chicago is not changing

So I was reading yesterday that for the Christmas holiday nothing much changed in Chicago. On Christmas Eve there were 9 shootings and one of those was killed. I'm not sure but I don't think they understand the holiday spirit. Christmas Day was a little better only 5 shootings and none reported dead as of yet. One is a 7 year old girl listed in critical condition. How is it for years now there is multiple shootings every single day in Chicago and mostly all on the west and southwest side of the city? Is there nothing being done to prevent this? Is there no one in those neighborhoods that cares enough to do anything about it? How does violence like that breed? I have no answers for how you fix something like this but I find it odd that there is no outrage about this. Seems to me that an average of 7 people a day getting shot is something that we should be a little more worried about. On December 22 there was a shooting in the Englewood Neighborhood on the Southside that 13 people were wounded. There was a house party to remember a 22 year old who was shot and killed while he tried to car jack someone. While the party was going on there was an argument that turned into 13 people being shot. This story leads me to believe these people knew each other since they were having a party to remember someone and they started to argue and it turned into a shoot out? What is wrong with people these days? I heard some politician from that area talking and sounding proud that from Jan 1st of this year to Christmas day there have been 248 less shootings this year compared to the same time last year. Although I agree the less shooting the better but he forgot to mention that there still was 2,594 shooting this year. Think about that for a second, 2,594 people have been shot in Chicago this year. That is an average of 7 people every single day getting shot. That many are getting shot and your happy with 248, let me know when you have about 2,000 less than maybe I will be happy about that.

I have never visited Chicago, to be honest we were a bit scared by its criminal records.

@Bensen32 When you do not know a place, it's hard to know where are the most dangerous places of the town, so it's better not to go.

@LadyDuck Very true. Thankfully I know the city well enough to know where to avoid.

Sounds about right. I hear that all the time. The downtown area is really nice and the north shore area very nice. The west and south well not so much.

It’s such a shame! I’ve only been to Chicago once and loved it. It’s such a vibrant and beautiful city. I have to admit, we stayed away from the south side. There were many killings while we were there, too.

LOL, there are some nice places to go. I was born there and use to go back very often now I only go a few times a year mostly cause my job takes me there once in a while otherwise I'm not sure I would go there anymore.

It's a very sad statistic. It would be great if there was less violence everywhere, not only Chicago.

You are not wrong. The world as a whole could use a whole lot less violence.
