Sometimes it's too noisy even for deaf people

The photo is of some of my sister’s goats hoeing into their breakfast.
My husband and I both have hearing aids although I don’t wear mine all the time as I get very itchy ears. When we visited my sister before Christmas, her son and his wife arrived soon after. They both talk very loudly. The next day, another son arrived plus some other family and we ended up with 16 adults and three kids.
When we had lunch, there were about four conversations going on at once and the noise level was incredible. In the end, Vince turned off his hearing aids and came into the kitchen to dry dishes. It has to really be something out of the ordinary for Vince to dry dishes! It was a good indication of how loud it was. Of course, hearing aids amplify everything mostly. They are not really a good substitute for ‘normal’ hearing.

Look on the bright side, at least you and Vince could turn off your hearing aids and drown out the loud conversation! The rest of us would have had to suffer through all that loud noise!

@JudyEv Headphones or ear muffs would have surely helped, although you would have had a lot of explaining to do if you were seen wearing them!

@moffittjc Some might have been a bit put out if we had done that.

I recently went for a hearing test, they want to sell me their 'computerized' hearing aids that will be made specifically for me and supposedly are not simply amplifiers ...... I dunno if I can afford them, the lowest price would be $2,995. What I could do with that kind of money if I had it. Oh well, I guess I won't be getting them.

They told us that the aids aren't just made to amplify but, of course, they could tell you anything. Vince swears by his and wears them most of the time which is good. My ears get incredibly itchy and I don't wear mine very often.

Oh my goodness, this is something I cannot stand. It happened when the five children of my grandmother all met at her house with their children too. My grandmother was bossy, so she often stand up and said "now you all lower the tone of your voice".

Those goats look so cute and look how impatient they are.
I too prefer to go to a corner when noise levels go too high at gatherings. I need few moments to myself before returning back.

@JudyEv That can be really dangerous if one looses the balance. They should be fenced till the person is ready to feed.

my dad would randomly turn his hearing aid off just to annoy people!
They do tend to pick up a lot more side noise.

@DocAndersen Haha. That's pretty funny but quite true in many families, I would think.

quite a dramatic effect. The goats look very excited by the arrival of the food here

I remember those days with a house of family, most have passed away now, but I was always glad to go home to quiet.

I guess it's so quiet at home, all the noise comes as a bit of a shock.

It often happens when everyone talks and no one listens but one cannot help avoiding the noise though

It was lovely to see them all but better when a few went off for a walk and the noise level lessened.

I think one of the problems with hearing aids is filtering out background noise. I know my Dad always had trouble with that.
