Are Animals Capable of Evil?

I recently saw a video of a little baby walking. There was a cat nearby. As she passed the cat, it stuck its leg out and tripped her. Then it sat there trying to look innocent. Is that cat evil? Was it just that one cat jealous of a child? Have you seen examples of pets or other animals doing something that is not nice?

I think they are just instintual, but it is certain some have better personalities than others. I think it generally depends on how much socialization they had when they were small and if they associate humans with positive experiences.

Maybe it is best to get a kitten when the baby is young so they grow up together. We always had cats and dogs. I don't remember any big problems between the kids and the animals.

Have you ever seen JJ’s cat Scar? I’m pretty sure the evil cat question has been answered! Haha

I have seen that video as well. It was floating around Facebook a while. I actually found the video funny. But animals do this sort of thing all the time, and I don't think it has a thing to do with being evil. Animals are as playful as humans are, and sometimes they do this sort of thing just for fun.

Thank you for that. Maybe I saw it wrong and the kitty was just having fun. I hope so.

@porwest Which videos? The ones of animals playing pranks and having fun. I also saw the video on Facebook. It is what started me thinking of this question.

i'm most certain the cat 'twas not evil, though might've been seekin' a tad bit 'f revenge. most likely said baby 'd done harm to said cat. that're the cat jest wished to play 'n the humans took such diff'rent.

@akalinus some folks seem to've a twisted sense 'f right'n wrong when 't comes to young'uns 'n critters. lettin' the wee'uns wallow, pinch, pull, lay on, kick, etc. the critters 'n then when the critters decide 'nough 'tis 'nough, they're to blame. they don't teach these young'uns to be gentle, let 'em treat the family pets like schtuffed toys. i find such most disturbin'. the critters 'lways suffer the consequences.

@crazyhorseladycx Yes, I am sure that cats don't like dressing up, riding in doll carriages, or any of things that kids do with them. They just want to be cats.

That is a different way to look at it. Baby was not very old, just learning to walk.

Hm, nature can be funny like that. Maybe the cat thought it was playing with the baby, maybe it didn't understand, or maybe it was doing it to be malicious....

Maybe the cat thought it was funny and thought the baby would too.

@FayeHazel Some cats can be a pain. They seem to enjoy their antics even if the humans they own do not.

@akalinus Animals don't think.A natural force which we call instinct persuades them to behave in a particular way.
