TV Review Dracula 2019

The BBC - Spoiler alerts This was fabulous. It started off fairly faithful by the book homage to Bram Stoker, half-dead looking Jonathon Harker recovering and explaining his trip to Transylvania, but soon the departures start kicking in, Harker isn't half-dead but full on corpse, his diary journal is a Jack Torrence at the Overlook collection of gibberish, and the nuns interrogating him are rather irreverent (faith is just for children) and keen to get to the juicy sex scenes. This is Dracula as if Anne Rice wrote it rather than Stoker. Lots of great nods to Hammer and the confined castle corridor spaces were genuinely creepy as were the live corpses contorted and crushed into small crates. Claes Bang was awesome in the lead, clearly enjoying himself immensely. The cat & mouse game of who will invite me in at the convent was very tense with no doubt that he would find a way (very Hannibal Lecter), and simply pulling up a chair to watch his wolves rip the nuns apart was hilarious as well as as gore fest. Of course, Agnes being Van Helsing makes her a more formidable opponent / nemesis and hopefully the fun will continue. It should of course end with Drac finally in dust but actually already hoping he endures for future outings. Arthur Chappell

@arthurchappell Thanks for sharing that with us, Arthur. We have something Darkula that was on Netflix and started to watch it and really did not want to continue it and cannot remember why. We also have Van Helsing on Netflix and have not checked it out yet.

That's weird. I don't go for sexy scenes.

@Nakitakona there aren't that many in the series - it plays on him being as likely to bite men's necks as women's
