Call mom for an answer but get a lecture

Sometimes I call my mom to ask her a question I need an answer to.
Instead of just getting that answer and calling it a day I end up staying on the phone for a long time with my mom doing most of the talking.
Whether she is telling me something pertaining to my life that I am doing wrong or should be doing that I am not doing, or it's something about her own life or someone else's life... I consider it a lecture... as I hardly get a word in.
I either don't know how to respond to what she is saying or words don't come out of my mouth, hence why it's a lecture.
And because I am a nice person, I find it rude to hang up or cut her off and say I have to go, which is what I want to do.
So I end up staying on the phone with her, letting her talk, until she finally decides to end the conversation.

You have to learn to speak up! I know it's hard for you. Your mom is doing what she thinks is in your best interests.

Sometimes she will tell me "I am not gonna lecture you" but she ends up doing it anyway. If I had no problem opening my mouth and speaking up my life would be so much better.

She told me recently how she would like it that for once she will not be doing most of the talking.
