What was your first thought when you heard about the Boeing 737 that crashed after takeoff from Iran?
It came out (in the news) pretty quickly that the plane had been downed by a surface to air missile (or two), and my first (or second) thought was that it was an accidental shoot down by the Iranian military.
The evidence seems to suggest that that's what happened, and Iran has finally admitted that they "accidentally" shot down the plane, killing 170 or so passengers and crew.
Why did I think the way I thought? Because NOBODY gains, politically, by killing 170 civilians.
The next question: How did it happen? How could the Iranian military mistake a Boeing 737 for a military aircraft when it was a regularly scheduled flight?
Your thoughts?

Seriously, my thought was “let’s see how long it takes people to blame Trump for this.”
Then I thought that Iran didn’t want the US and Russia pissed at them, so they fessed up pretty quickly.

@TheHorse When people fear to be attacked they do not think twice. If I see a drone coming toward my house and I fear that it could bring a bomb, I shoot it down before it reaches my home. The Iraqi airport had been bombed a few days before, may be they feared that Americans were doing the same to their airport.

@LadyDuck I watch airplane crash videos to find out "what happened." I actually learn about "clear communication" (and breakdowns therein) by listening to pilots and air traffic controllers. It's a weird "hobby," but I've used it in my communication (as a psychologist) with kids on the autism spectrum. I would think that the Iranian military could tell a commercial flight from an incoming bomber. But I don't know.

I kind of suspected from the start that there was something a bit fishy about the whole thing. Not sure WHY Iran did it, and I am not altogether convinced it was an accident. But it's Iran. Nuff said. How in the world would ANYONE think of Iran as trustworthy or civil?

@TheHorse Me too. But hopefully you have been paying close attention to what has been happening with the PEOPLE there. Trump has told them, the people, time and time again that he has their back. WE (America) has their back. They have taken to the streets more than a couple times now, and NOW they are taking to the streets once more to call for the ouster of the Ayatollah over the downing of the plane. Trump has given power back to the people of IRAN, and they are not taking that lightly. If they want their lives, if they want peace, they KNOW who is on their side and it is US, not the Ayatollah. Not the horrible regime. Not the horrible corruption. Not the horrible oppression. The fact that Trump exists is allowing an entire nation to rise up and stand up and fight back.
And yet here we sit as a nation making him into a monster. He has restored this country, restored our manufacturing, leveled the playing field with trade, taken back the support of Israel, stopped ISIS and crippled the Taliban, and now has allowed the people of Iran to take charge and rise up, stopped China from taking over the people of Hong Kong...
And the evil one is Trump? Sorry. It just pisses me off. Wake the eff up people!

Finally it has come out for sure that Iranian missile has brought down the civilian plane. I made a first post of it here in mylot. At that time it never occurred to me that something like this could happen. Because no body gains politically, as you rightly pointed out, by such an action.
According to me what could have happened is after firing the missiles, the Iranian protective battery must have been expecting retaliatory fire from Americans from Iraq and they must have mistakenly thoght this is one of them. How they must have thought so only God knows.
If anybody is to be blamed for the incident, it is war atmosphere that was in the air at thst time. And for that atmosphere US is equally responsible.
I on my part feel that there were sufficient reasons for America to declare war on Iran. If they had done so and did what they did would have been justifiable.

My first thought was it got caught in the barrage of missiles Iran was firing. It was so tragic that those lives were lost. My second thought was that the Democrats will come up with a way to blame our President for it. And sure enough, they did.

@TheHorse Some said that if President Trump hadn't killed Solimani, Iran wouldn't be firing missiles and the passenger plane wouldn't have been shot down.

@1creekgirl Yeah, I figured some would say that. I hadn't heard of Solimani until his killing. Someone I talked to today (a liberal) said he was a bad bad man. That's all I know.
