How’s your Saturday going? Here in my word it is an interesting one. I am working a brand new shift (for me) 1200-2200. It has been interesting. Not sure if I love it yet but it is the first day. I work Saturdays and Sundays 1200-2200, Mondays and Tuesdays 1530-0130. This way I will have off Wednesday’s, Thursday’s and Fridays. I will miss my Sundays off but it’s all good! I made it one of my resolutions to quit smoking and so I have been stocking up on aids and other fun Things. For Those thinking of quitting smoking in the US, “QuitPlan” is a free service that will send you some generic nicotine gum, lozenges or patches. I am not even bothering quitting before I go on vacation as that will simply not happen, especially as I am traveling with a smoker. But end of January, it’s on! I am scared but excited for the life change. For those quitters out there, besides your strong willed natures, what else has helped you quit?

Even though I do not smoke, the way I am trying to stop my addiction to overeating is to think that by doing exercises like walking outside, I have a great chance of beating my desire to harm myself by eating too much. Just think of the consequences of smoking like getting cancer or other illnesses.

How is that going? And it is easier said than done when you haven’t been addicted for many many years. The prospect of quitting is daunting.

@maezee I just have this fear of being sent to a hospital with tubes on my body which works for me to stay from foods to be eaten in moderation.

I smoked 2 1/2 packs a day of Kools, got hypnotized and never smoked again, and lived with a smoker. Tony smoked since he was little kid, tried and tired but never could quit but the day he went a vent with lung cancer, he never smoked again.

Hypnotized? Can you give me more info? I would be interested in trying something like that! I am about a pack a day. For the last 13 or so years. Any advice or further info is appreciated :)

I used a poisonous med called Chantix. Later on, a psychiatrist said that if I had not been for my will power, I would not have quitted.

Wow! That’s good. I have heard things about Chianti’s. Mostly bad things to be honest. Bad side effects.

@marguicha I can understand that. I have known a couple people to become depressed and manic on Chantix which I do not want to experience.

Sounds like it could work. I am not at that point yet, but it is getting harder and harder. People so want it outlawed. I am like we still a free country. I try to avoid people when I smoke, but some how they find me chew me out or act like smoke is bugging them. I am like dude you walked up to me. I was not even close to you.

I know. I am not a social smoker, I just like to do it. You should make it the right time! If I let myself continue to put it off... I don’t feel like I’ll ever accomplish it

I never smoked. My sister had to try twice before she quit smoking. She took welbutrin once and it made her ill so she quit it. She then chose to use it again and stuck with it with success. I wish you the best of luck. It takes a lot of willpower, or so I'm told.

Please keep going on your resolve to not smoke. Its my birthday today so my mind is on the fact that my Dad only lived four more years than I am now- not even 70- and cause of an oxygen tank. He smoked and smoked.

Sad. I know. These are considerations for sure. My lungs are probably already damaged.

I never smoked but my Dad did and willpower and substituting eating candy helped him. Of course, he then had to work on losing the weight he gained, lol.
