It Gets a Thumbs Up From Me

With all the automation in today's delivery world companies have made it rather easy for people to keep track of what's coming and when. One of the newest ways to do that is through the Post Office, with a service known as Informed Delivery.
It's apparently not available everywhere (since it asks for your ZIP code to see if you're able to get the service), but it is available here. And it gets a thumbs up from me!
What they do is take a picture of your mail, then post the pictures in your USPS "Informed Delivery" account. That way, you can see what's arriving in your mailbox.
This is very helpful if you're expecting important things (such as a new credit card), or if you're out of town and have your mail on hold. I'm not out of town right now (though that might change in five minutes, the way I am
), but my mail is on hold (just in case I decide that it's better to be in Florida). No worry, though, because I can open my account and see what's been delivered. Right now, all I have is junk mail (I'm sorry, we weren't allowed to call it that when I worked there...."business bulk mail"); however, if my W2 shows up I'll run and pick it up!
Drawbacks? Of course it has drawbacks. This is the government we're talking about!!! It only works with letter-sized envelopes, meaning that no larger manilla envelopes will show up.
However, I'm very happy with this service.
And, can you believe it, it's free!

The USPS is really trying to keep up with the other cars in the race.

Yeah, but honestly, it’s like a Yugo in a race with Ferraris.

Very interesting. I get tracking information from the company from which I purchase items which works out well.

My partner retired from the USPS several years ago. I learned a lot from him about how the system works, and given the fact that the far right want to privatise the USPS, not to mention get their mitts on the retirement funds for the workers and union, I gotta say -- protest. Tell your congressman and senators NOT to let the government take it away. It's been around for almost 250 years, and it still works pretty damn well. Ok, I'm ranting here... sorry about that.
