What's with all these streaming services?

There is Neflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. And now there are all these others out there and new ones being created as we speak. If I were to compile a list it probably would be very long. And of course they are all not free. You wanna watch stuff there fork over money for each one on a monthly basis. Netflix is a very popular, if not the most popular, streaming service. However, not all shows you watch or want to watch are on Netflix. Some may be on Hulu, some on Amazon Prime Video, some on other streaming services. There is no way that people will subscribe to many of these just to watch a few shows on each one. Perhaps I am wrong but I know I wouldn't. Even if the monthly subscription is not high, it still adds up when you subscribe to many of these services. And even if people will watch many things on each one, which justifies subscribing to many streaming services, there is no way they will have time for it all unless they will do nothing all day but stream things on Netflix and others. Hubby only subscribes to Netflix and I am fine with that. Though I have to say there are some shows I'd watch or re-watch that are not on Netflix and I am bummed about that. But I can live without it. I'd rather spend that extra money on something else.

Eventually, you will be paying as much for streaming services as cable to duplicate what you get now. Each network is launching a service. Each sport will launch streaming. Fees continue increasing. The consumer is paying for Netflix to pay the Obamas and Adam Sandler etc obscene pots of money to produce programs. Cable cutters better enjoy the low fees now because the end is coming and a return to complaining about entertainment costs.

What's the need for so many streaming services? It's ridiculous.

@JohnRoberts I get that but what is the need? Can't we just go to the channel's website and watch the shows there?

@lovebuglena Each streaming channel will equal a channel like CBS etc.

It's an over saturation of the market. People are going to eventually tire of all of these services. I used to use netflix but they got to be too expensive for me to justify, especially as I wasn't always watching it.

We do not watch it often these days but hubby still subscribes.

@lovebuglena I would ask my friend if I could get her username and password and log in to her's since I have a profile, but I think netflix has clamped down on that. It would be more economical though, just throw her $5 every month.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Every time there is a Netflix login I think hubby gets emails to make sure it's him. 'Cause sometimes he calls me from work to ask if I am watching Netflix. I get why they'd be against people passing their accounts to others. They are losing lots of money that way.

I'm not all that happy with Netflix since we really don't use it enough. I cancelled Prime for that reason. I'd like to find a service that has a bunch of the older shows that I like; but they all have different ones!

Yeah, it's crazy when you have to subscribe to one service to watch show A and to another to watch show B, etc. I heard that Saved by the Bell was getting a reboot. I was all excited. But then I learned it won't air on TV. It will be on some streaming service and I am not even sure which one. There goes that.

@LindaOHio I never watched it on Netflix. Only reruns on TV. Why did they take away Friends?

@lovebuglena Yeah, it's like they took Friends away from Netflix; and people are all bummed about that.

Only one thing is common for all of them - it will destroy cinema.

I hope that will not happen.

@Ladanger I wish they had more stuff I wanna re-watch. I would re-watch Shadowhunters but that is on Hulu. I am not gonna subscribe to Hulu for that.

I don't know if all streaming is necessarily a great idea. There shouldn't be so many streaming services for things.

We recently got a Fire stick and we're learning how to do Hulu and whatever else. I'd love to be able to discontinue DIRECTV, It's all rather confusing to me. Sure glad we have kids and grandkids who are tech savvy.

There are many who say that the streaming will finally put to rest the cinema and the tv in the future.

@lovebuglena yeah, that is also my take because Netflix and other streaming are now the toast of the town, so to speak. Even the cable movies are going down in their audience.

So there will be no cinema and no cable, just streaming?

Don't go much for these shows. I have free data for Netflix everyday but don't use it.

Our son-in-law is a real tech freak and he has just about every TV channel, device and streaming service you can imagine. He spends more time searching all these places for something to watch instead of actually watching something

Reminds me of hubby... it can take him a very long time to figure out what movie to watch. Sometimes, by the time he is done choosing it is time for bed.
