It is the first day of the festival. Today is Bhogi. Today is the day wherein ,old things are being replaced by the "new things". This tradition has a moral fact that, all the bad things must be given up and good things should be filled in, instead. On this auspicious day, let all the negativity be faded away and our lives be filled with joy, novelty, goodness and positive vibes. Happy Bhogi to all.
Have a great day ahead.
See you around.

Have a great day ahead.

Happy Bhogi, what do you do with the old things? What if you have.no money to buy new things?

as per wikipedia, "On Bhogi, people discard old and derelict things and concentrate on new things causing change or transformation. At dawn, people light a bonfire with logs of wood, other solid-fuels and wooden furniture at home that are no longer useful."
but you have a great point, what if that's all you have and you can't buy new ones? maybe others can donate theirs instead.

@hereandthere @florelway we donate them to the needy people.
"Things" here doesn't literally mean for it.
Yes. As I've mentioned in my post, all the bad things must be given up and good habits must be incorporated in. That's the sole message of this tradition.
As we say in my mother tongue..." Pazhayana kazhithalum ; puthiyana puguthalum.."
The translation is .." old things( bad qualities) must be deduced and which makes way for good things ( i.e. good qualities)
Hope my answer helps somewhat in clarifying...

it sounds like the way we celebrate new year's day. so is bhogi celebrated nationally or just certain regions? is there a special greeting that you say to each other?

Sorry I'm not sure if it's celebrated nationally. But South Indians do celebrate it.
