I am having Second Thoughts

I picked up my daughter pretty early from her kindergarten today because I wanted her to have dinner early. While at the playground, one of the moms invited me to go to her house so her daughter could play with Hyorin. She has invited us before but unfortunately, I begged off because my doctor had scheduled a check-up. This afternoon, I thought it would be rude if I turn down her invitation again. When we came to her house, she immediately sat in front of the computer. Our kids just played in her living room that was carpeted with toys all over the place. I sat on the edge of the sofa watching the kids. I felt uncomfortable. I knew that she can hardly speak English. I, as well, have limited Korean vocabulary. I have been invited by another Korean mom before and I felt at home. Now, I am having second thoughts on whether we (my daughter and I) would go there again.

If you don’t feel comfortable then do not force yourself visiting her place again. It’s hard to know how they treat their guests in their place. It might be she just wants to have her child to accompany her and you baby sit them for free.

It was so rude of that lady inviting you to her house and leaving you alone watching the kids. While children played she should have interacted with you and kept you entertained. Good decision taken by you not to visit them again.

To make the matter worst, we got lost in the basement parking lot. It was my first time to go to the apartment where they live. They live on the 21st floor.

@Iam_jauntyjen so she's more conversant in english?

We enjoyed our conversation. I was with my toddler and my husband. Then, she asked her sister-in-law to drop by so our kids could play together inside their house. While the kids were playing, we, adults enjoyed our talking with over a coffee.

Do you mean to say that the host just used her computer and seemed to have ignored you?

Kinda. She would nod or look at us but she did not engage in a conversation.

@Iam_jauntyjen that is rude of her regardless of the language barrier. You don't treat a house guest that way.

@Alexandoy My husband asked if we had eaten dinner when we got home, I told him I did not expect she invited us for dinner. On our way home, we lost our way in the basement park. There was a kind man who helped us. He could not speak English well, but he understood me.

uhhhmmm, not sure. hehehe. Maybe, she was so busy and she needed someone to keep her baby company while she's doing her remote job. I am actually reconsidering. How about you? I mean, if you experienced the same situation, would you return?

That woman is pretty rude, she really had to stay with you, even if you could not speak too much.
