Update on my dad....

Perth, Australia

As I mentioned in my recent post, my dad needed to go to the hospital and I am very thankful he did. He came home, had a shower and we both went to the hospital together. He told me I didn't have to but I wanted to go with him. Didn't want him to go alone nor did I want to sit at home wondering what was going on. Just a quick recap for those who don't know: Dad has diabetes. Last year around this time his big toe went all black due to an ingrown toenail. Nearly died from blood poisoning. Big toe was amputated and not long after that the tip of another toe was amputated too due to there being an infection in his bones. He had a lot of surgery to debride the foot. On Tuesday evening, my dad noticed another tip of his toe starting to go black. So went to the hospital that night. We arrived at the hospital about 9pm Tuesday. Thankfully he was seen to quite quickly. Around midnight he had blood taken out and some x-rays done. He was drifting off to sleep a lot so I kept quiet as he had a very long day at work as well as a 4 hour drive back home! But around 4am with still no results, my dad and I decided I get my brother to pick me up. I didn't want to go but I had to go somewhere that day that was important which I will post about later. So hugged my dad and left. He is still in hospital. Now in a ward. So basically the update is that apparently there is an infection again in the bones in another toe or toes. So looks like there might be more amputation. I am seeing my dad this evening. That's pretty much the update. Thank you kindly for reading.

@sunrisefan It's more likely than not likely for him to have more toes removed. Thank you for your support and kind words. Appreciate it.

@sunrisefan I really do appreciate your kindness. I personally don't pray. I am grateful for those who do for my dad but as much as people were praying last year, it only got worse and worse. Thank you. I just don't really believe in prayer. Otherwise people around the world would be happy and healthy always if it was truly that powerful. I wasn't exactly blessed last year for helping him. 2019 was the worst year I've had in my life. No disrespect at all though, please know that! I just mean I'm personally not going to pray or believe I will be blessed. I do right because those are my morals and I care. I don't do it to expect anything back. But thank you for being kind enough to say that and wishing him well.

@VivaLaDani13 You're welcome, Ms. Dani. Still, let's just pray that he does not get another toe amputated. You will be blessed for taking care of your father.

It is a sad condition that your dad is in but on the brighter side, the surgery or amputation can save his life. And I don't think it is a serious one and probably just like with the previous surgery.

@VivaLaDani13 pardon me for saying this but I wonder why your father seems to be so stubborn as if he doesn't mind his health issues. Others who are in his condition would be very careful in what they eat and in what they do.

@Alexandoy It's no worries Alex. The reason for my dad being a bit difficult ( though thankfully he did good this time around ) is because when he was younger, he was at the doctors and his nose started bleeding. And a nurse scared my dad by telling him he was suffering from a brain hemorrhage. When really it was just a simple nose bleed. Ever since then, my dad has been suffering with White Coat Syndrome. No matter how calm he is, as soon as he gets a blood pressure reading at a doctors office, it's always high. When he does the reading at home, it's always normal. He is very concerned with his health. He is eating right since last year and pricking his finger multiple times a day to check his sugar and taking his insulin. It's just getting him to the doctor that's the issue but thankfully this time around he did something about it straight away. But yeah last year was horrible. He was very ill and the stress from him not doing anything literally had my hair falling out.

@Alexandoy I do agree with all you said. Last year nearly killed him. I am thankful he took action fast this time.

@LadyDuck Thank you kindly. He did have a bit of his toe amputated so at least it wasn't his whole toe. We are all hoping this is the last of any amputation. I did another update about that but you don't need to look since I've told you here. EDIT: Sorry, I just saw you did answer there. Thank you. Sorry, still catching up with notifications.

Does your dad take any kind of medication to control the diabetes?

@VivaLaDani13 If he is managing his diabetes with medication, I’m surprised he’s having issues with his feet.

@moffittjc We think this is due to him not wearing the proper shoes. A lady who works for the diabetes team in the hospital was kind enough to help set something up for my dad to get the correct shoes.

@moffittjc He does. I'm not certain which ones they are but I think he takes one or two a day.

@VivaLaDani13 Makes sense that you wanted to be there for him and with him. I remember you sharing that with us. That must be so hard for your dad to hope that he was finished with that and then something else going wrong. I can see why he wanted you to go home. That is horrible another infection. Dani, how are you doing with all this? I am so so sorry.
