Why do they do it?!

Yesterday my 13 year old granddaughter had her friend round. They had been into town together buying all sorts of lotions and face masks as they are at the age when they like to experiment.
All seemed quiet and then I hear a lot of scurrying to and forth from the bathroom and a panic stricken cry of "what am I going to do!" The granddaughter's friend had put something on her face that she was allergic to and looked rather like a shiny tomato. I told her to leave it for a while and see if it calmed down which it did after an hour or so but it was still a little red.
The early teens are the age of experimentation, clothes, makeup, face creams and as most of us know there are plenty of mistakes to be made. I just hope the girl's mum saw the funny side of it when she got home and that it is looking better today.

Poor girl, but it is a good thing, she must learn that some experiments can finally be dangerous.

This is why you should always ALWAYS do an allergy test... Put a bit of it on a small patch of skin if you react don't use it.

@Fa_Maverick I never bothered I'm afraid and I remember once I had a very sore head from using a hair colour that didn't agree with my skin. I knew I should wash it off right away but it was still sore for a few days.

Not all kids think like that* I most certainly did. It's why I never had my face look like ITs shiny red balloon. Instead with the allergy test I did in the crook of my elbow I had localised swelling so my elbow looked really weird.

It was her friend but she is fine today. Her mother gave her something soothing to put on it.

I have two teenage daughters and I can well relate to that experimentation thing.
Teenage is a weird stage but so much fun full of exploration.

Yes I remember using facial wipes that gave me little bumps under the skin and a tightness of the skin.

You don't look as if you need it. You're naturally pretty.

@sprite1950 Poor girl! I agree with you, I hope her mum won't be angry about it as I'm sure she didn't do it on purpose. I am glad it's looking better! Would suck for something so simple to cause a scar or rash or something that was hard to go away!
