Just got a call from my dad about surgery tomorrow....

Giving a quick update. My dad just rang me to let me know that apparently he will be in surgery tomorrow afternoon to have the tip of his toe amputated. I asked my dad how he was feeling about it and he pretty much said what he has been saying all along. That he has accepted this some time last year. He accepted that it was possible he could lose all his toes on that foot. He is in quite good spirits but there is a lot on his mind. Besides being fed up being in hospital, he used up all his sick days last year from not being able to work so there is a high chance that he may lose his job. So his job, money, our house, his car is all on his mind. ( he is considering selling his car if he cannot work any time soon ). I wish things could be different for him. It sucks he is back in hospital again. I will be going down to the hospital in the morning to see him to wish him good luck before surgery takes place. Thank you for reading the update.

Gee, what a sad situation you are in. I hope the surgery goes well and the job would remain.

@VivaLaDani13 I hope his job would still be there. It would be disastrous for him emotionally if he lost his job.

@Alexandoy Thank you. I agree. I hope things can just go back to where they were before instead of more worries piling on top of each other.

I am so sorry for your father, but I really hope that he does not lose his jobs. They should understand his position, he needs his job now. My best wishes for your father Dani, a big HUG to you.

@LadyDuck I will explain much better on another update post but my dad is back home. Came home this afternoon. He is looking and doing really well. I'm so glad he took action as soon as he saw his toe wasn't right!

Best wishes on the surgery and toe tip is not bad to be amputated. My friend is going in for a Cardiac Cath on Wednesday. I am picking up his dog tomorrow in case they have to keep him in the hospital a day or two.

Is it possible he could just take an unpaid leave of absence from his job, so that he is not getting paid while he is out but is still able to keep his job when he gets over the surgery?

@VivaLaDani13 That is totally understandable. Would they try to help your dad find another position in the company, or will they help him find another job somewhere else?

@moffittjc I asked my dad that too. I suggested he do the office side of things but the boss takes care of all that. I'm not sure if they could provide him with details for another job. Not really sure what is going on or what will happen.

@moffittjc I think that's what he did last year. I'm not completely sure to be honest. I just know that if he is unable to go back, his boss ( who has been very understanding and checking up on my dad a lot ) will have to give the position to someone else. Only because the other guys can't keep taking over as they have their own jobs to do. They have all been really good but eventually it will get much harder for them and dad's position will have to be filled.

Hope everything goes well. Seems somewhat unfair that he should lose his job due to his health problems. Seems like a pretty uncaring organisation to me!!

@VivaLaDani13 I suppose it must be difficult for the company in this situation. Hopefully they can come to some arrangement that works for them and your dad.

@WorDazza Thank you. I hope so too. I think it's all going to be good though. Heard nothing negative about his job as of late. Just seeing how things go.

@WorDazza Thank you very much. Actually his boss has been very good to him. My dad was unable to work for most of the year last year and his boss was always asking him how he was doing. It's only because my dad's position can't be held down by the other guys as they have their own thing to do. My dad is a sales rep so it's hard for others to take care of my dad's stores / areas when they already have their own. His boss sacrificed a lot by waiting for my dad to come back. So it's now hard on what is going to happen when my dad used up all his sick days last year.

Here you can get up to twelve weeks of family and medical leave, unpaid and not be fired. As I read this the problem and concern is two fold. One concern is that he will have to be off work, but the bigger concern is that he may be let go. I hope not.

@GardenGerty I think all will be well. He has a doctor's note to be off this week and hopefully is able enough to work after that.
