Do you work on public holidays?

I have a public holiday coming soon but I have opted to work on that day because I get paid double for one day. So it is very profitable for me to work. So this time I will be working for 6 days a week, but I find it pretty good offer to lose. I will be fine to have a one day off for one week. Do you also opt to work when you have national holidays? Or how much does your company pays you to work on such holidays?

As a teacher, I never had to work on any holiday. I received a salary, so no additional pay for me unless I gave up a prep period to watch another class.

@Archie0 I worked early and late at school and brought work home. I’m so glad that I’m retired!

@amitkokiladitya I think I wouldn’t because my work is extremely hectic and provided I get some days off we all are very happy. That is the reason these companies who have very stressful jobs pay double. It’s just not easy for me or anyone in my company to work on a national holiday with regular pay. We go mad by the end of every weekend

Our office is closed on public holidays. Some departments close for a full two weeks over Christmas but my department doesn't! We have to save some of our annual leave days for that period as we only need to have one or two people in on each day. I wouldn't mind working on public holidays if I got paid extra for it but it's not an option where I work.

I will be working on my public holiday, it is true I am exhausted and I always wait for my weekends but this time I have to work for an extra day for that double payment.

I'm retired now but I used to beause the money was good. In my last job I worked in an old people's home which is a 24/7 business so they were always looking for people to work bank holidays.

@Archie0 It wasn't that good but some people needed the money. It was usually double time although sometimes only time and a half.

@Archie0 That was really not the reason, but not all our clients celebrate our same holidays and you cannot say NO to a client when you work for yourself.

it depends on the companies if they require the employee to work
