Day 171
Promise 222
Ps 86:1 (A Prayer of David.) Bow down thine ear, O LORD, hear me: for I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant who trusts in thee.
3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.
4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
5 For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them who call upon thee.
6 Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.
7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.
Do you pray for your needs, what you hope to have, or your struggles?
In David’s prayer you see two things. One, he prayed because of need, the need to be free of the struggles, the opposition that always came against him. Two, when he prayed, he reminded God of His promise to hear, forgive, and show mercy to those who called on Him.
As Christians, you face struggles every day from Satan who opposes you in everything you want to do for God.
God wants you to pray. He wants to know what’s on your heart. He wants you to remind Him of His promises. Does that mean God won’t act if you don’t remind Him of His promises? No. He promised to keep you safe from your enemy. He has your back.
When you remind God of His promises, He knows you because you spend time with Him.
David said he cried to God daily. It wasn’t a once in a while when he felt like it prayer for God’s protection, mercy, and forgiveness. It was daily.
When you spend time with God, reading His Word, praying, telling others about His love, God knows you mean business when you pray. You’re not praying a generic prayer that covers all the bases but in reality, is a hollow, meaningless prayer. You’re praying from a heart devoted to God. God will answer a heart devoted to Him faster than a general meaningless prayer.
What kind of prayers do you pray?
Let’s pray: Father, give me a heart devoted to You. Let me be found spending time with You in prayer and Bible study. Help me tell others about Your love. When I pray, let me know You hear me and will answer me according to Your promise to hear, answer, and forgive. Show mercy to me as I come to You with my struggles and send Satan far from me. According to Your promise, according to Your Word, I pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
