Hung by the neck

The other family we know here is the one holding the wedding later this week. We’re waiting for a phone call from them and will be meeting up later today. I’m getting used to the streets here in Kathmandu and to all the people, hurrying every which way either on foot or with some form of transport. Some of the shops have models on which to display their clothes. Almost always, the models lean out from an upright position. They are stopped from falling on their faces by a string around their neck which looks a bit gross but is also funny. About the middle of the top photo, you can see a row of models on the second floor, all leaning out over the street. They’re all supported by a string round their necks. The bottom photo shows the string better.

@DocAndersen That's why I put the bottom photo. You can see the string on the guy without a face. That yellow line is a string.

Ahaha. I saw that. That is a funny way of putting the models or manequins. Maybe because they lack space to put them

@JudyEv I wonder how will they change the outfits of those mannequins? will someone go up on a ladder? ahaha

@rakski I hadn't thought about that. I guess they grab the string and pull the head back towards the building.

Yes, that could well be the case. Some of the little shops are chockablock full of merchandise.

They have found an easy and cost effective way to keep them in place. But it definitely looks like they are being executed. Are you doing some shopping there? Heard that it's a good place to shop.

We hadn't intended to do any shopping but because of the cheap prices I might buy some tracksuit type pants and a puffer jacket. We will also buy scarves for our two sons.

Gee, that is funny. One time I was in Lynchburg VA, and I was driving through the area, I saw a mannequin just kind of standing on the sidewalk. It was unusual to see it there.I never saw one outside of a store.

Lynchburg is a pretty awful name too! But appropriate for this discussion. There are quite a lot of mannequins on the sidewalks here.

I agree it's a good way to show off what they've got but the strings give me a funny feeling.

@judyev That could be really quite unsettling if you were passing them on the way to court even just To face the consequences for a driving offence

Hahaha that is an interesting way to display things which serves two purposes. The dummies won't fall and it is difficult to steal them!

I think those were just inflatable mannequins which doesn't have enough weight to support its own that's why a tie is necessary to avoid falling down.

True. Clothes often look better on a model than just on a hanger.
