Fortune Cookies

Do you like fortune cookies? I mean do you like eating fortune cookies? And secondly, do you like the little sayings inside the fortune cookies? We always get a couple of fortune cookies in our Chinese pick up orders. It's fun to open them, eat them and see who gets the best saying. That is pretty much the game here; to see who gets the best saying in their fortune cookie. With that said, do you pay any attention to the sayings? Are you superstitious to the sayings? If you get a good one do you think it will come true? Or vice versa on a bad one? And for the record, I do like to eat them! Photo Credit: Pixabay, public domain

I always get ones that say something like, "Help, I'm being held hostage inside a Chinese bakery," or "You are the crispy noodle in the vegetarian salad of life."

You mean you don't try to help the poor hostages, Jeff?

We have no Chinese take away here and in Chinese restaurants they do not give the fortune cookies. You surely know that they are served in the United States, but are not a tradition in China. They were "invented" in California by a Chinese group.

Yep, it's all about making money. What gets me is how some truly believe these little pieces of paper and think yes, that's going to happen to me.

@kareng I do not know how some people can really believe in those strings of paper.

when I was younger I didn't like the taste but now that I'm older I think they are just sweet enough for an after dinner treat. the fortunes inside are always fun. I got one once that said "you look pretty", so I keep it on the bathroom mirror as a reminder that I don't have to look a certain way. it's silly but it helps :)

Some do have a nasty taste. I'm glad they are good at the shop we usually order from.

Some are and some have a better taste. I like the ones where you can detect the almond flavor.

I have found that some (brands) of the fortune cookies are much better than others. The fortunes are a bit fun.

Some are not tasty at all. I'm not either, but they can be fun when taken in that manner. Some of the people I used to work with used to love the fortunes and I think a couple of them truly believed in them.

My daughter and I get fortune cookies when we bring home Chinese food. We've tried eating them in the past, and read the fortunes, too, but usually just throw cookie and all away. Neither one of us likes them and we aren't interested in the fortunes in them. (Most of the time the "fortunes" read like someone copied them out of a book and make little or no sense.)
