1915 - An act of Congress creates the US Coast Guard as a branch of the US Armed Forces.
1936 - Alan Alda was born. He is an American actor, director, writer and comedian. He has won 6 Emmys and 1 Golden Globe. Alda is best known for playing the role of Hawkeye Pierce on M*A*S*H from 1972-1983. He has also had roles in the TV series West Wing and 30 Rock. Some of his movies include Same Time Next Year, The Four Seasons and Marriage Story.

Oh, you mean Alphonso Giuseppe Giovanni Roberto D'Abruzzo? Yes, I remember the name but not much about what he did "Guys and Dolls", etc. I do remember very well when he appeared on M*A*S*H.
