Yes, a snow day

After 7 a.m. the district called on the automated line. We are cancelling school today.
That is a good thing as they are predicting snow all day and the roads are already snow packed out in the country and rurally.
I just may go put on the kettle and make some ginger/lemon tea with honey as Judy Evans mentioned.
I did not take cough syrup last night and I slept okay, but still have some healing to do.
We have been working short handed by one para since before Christmas. Then yesterday another was absent.
We barely got into the day and our teacher got a phone call that her little girl had a fever. She was at school in another town.
All the district subs were already working.
Our principal had to be the teacher yesterday.
The district para coordinator subbed for the para.
I worked with my regular kiddos.
The snow day will give people a chance to heal.

We have lots of kids out, and staff as well. Just that kind of cycle.

Well I hope you enjoy your day at home & that you can rest and feel better also. I've had a headache and sore throat since like 4am this morning. I hope it doesn't stick around too long I don't have time to be sick.

Oh man, that is how that cold I had started. I was fortunate as we had a snow day on that Friday, then the weekend, then a teacher work day and I had already scheduled a sick day to take my sis to the doctor. I had five days to get through the worst of it. Things that help a sore throat include fresh pineapple, or horseradish, or ginger. I hope you did not get really sick.

@GardenGerty I ended up calling in sick on Friday. I had 100.6 temp and just felt really sick all day long. I haven't thrown up just a really bad head cold. So far today no fever so I'm hoping it stays that way. It seems it's all in my sinuses now.

Sometimes snow days are good for all, more than just for safety

I had a good day off. I still was able to claim a sick day so I get paid part of the day, just not my bus time.

I hope we all get better soon. So many people are sick and then we stay inside and it just seems to make it worse cause we do not get any fresh air to disperse the germs. Hope you are doing well.

@Hannihar I am glad I had a long weekend to get rid of the worst of it. The cough does sometimes disturb my sleep still.

It is very hard when one is sick and you are so right. I am ok. Thanks for that and asking.

Mostly because everyone is so closed up inside sharing their germs.

It seems to be a rough time of year. I hope your family gets better soon. There are still a lot of days until summer.

It was. Originally we were going to start two hours late. In some ways that is harder than a full day. I was glad we closed.

You just reminded me of a funny incident decades ago when we got a whole 2 inches of snow, we were asked to not report to work until 10am @GardenGerty as they thought the snow had melted by then
I'm in that part of TX where they panic if they see a drop of rain and heaven forbid a snowflake

It just makes good sense for them to call off classes when there is a chance of more snow than we can handle. We haven't had snow yet this year, but we know it is waiting to pounce any day @GardenGerty

I imagine that you do not get a lot of snowy weather. I know I could be wrong, though.

One or two years we had snow in late April. I do not wish for that.

@GardenGerty oh no, not in April. I do remember a couple of years ago having snow in March.

It is hard to keep teachers, but even harder to keep substitutes.

No snow here.
Seems as if your district has had a lot of snow days. Will they extend the term to make up for lost days?

Last year they even had a flood day, due to heavy spring rains. On the other hand three years ago we had no weather days and so the district released three days early. They calculate emergency days off into the calendar.
