What is your protocol when your computer freezes?

I'm sure I've asked this before, but I remain curious. What do you do when your computer gums up? I generally delete my cookies and browsing history. If that doesn't do, it do a restart. If that doesn't do it, I do a "cold reboot." If that doesn't do it, I call my friend Ken, the computer whiz.

I have some similar protocols in computer freeze case. At times, I do a hard and forceful reboot.

You face similar issues? I thought only Americans do. I am trying to open the message. But its taking ages to open message window. I read Maluse's mail, and couldn't reply. I think she must think I am so rude. I guess you mentioned a link there. Sorry but for some reason notifications take ages to come and messages screen much longer. Are you also facing the same issue?

I restart and if it doesn´t work I do what you call a "cold reboot". The most that can happen is that the thing explodes in my face

As I've said before, I'd like to invent something called the "telephone." You could call people and actually talk to them. I wonder if the technology is there.

That's essentially what I do in the Summers. I head to Montana, and live off of the grid for a few days.

I follow your steps except the last one as I don't know Ken the computer whiz. Instead I call my hubby, Mike the computer whiz and he can figure out what is going on.

I wish I had a husband named Mike who could do that for me. Wait. I'm straight. But Ken can be flaky about getting back to me.

What is "cold reboot"? My computer is generally good boy. It loves me and I love it. The only time it sulks is when Internet or power fail it. At times though something inside can go wrong. But it is never the software touch wood. So I really don't know what you are talking about... you must be as nasty with your system as you are with me.

@TheHorse LOL. Why can't you Americans be gentlemen? Serious question...who cares...about that cold reboot... I have never needed to do it. LOL

Vanny, you ignorant trollop (stolen from Saturday Night Live)! A cold reboot is when you turn the computer all the way off, wait about 30 seconds, and then restart it.

@TheHorse I have a laptop. I do close it and throw it on the couch. But have threatened to throw a couple of them out the window.

I don't have a friend Ken, but I do all the above. It usually works fine after the reboot and clearing the cookies.

I am glad. Everyone needs a "friend named Ken" for times when nothing else works.

I restart. With my last computer, I ended up having to get a new one (it was 7 years old anyway)! Now I don't have that problem.

@TheHorse I have no idea. The only thing I didn't try was a defrag. It was hanging up in every operation.

I do close all of the open files that I don't need. But when things get gummed up, that can be a slow process.
