Somebody owns my cell number

This is totally crazy. For more than a month, I am receiving calls from unknown callers. Some I answered, some were rejected. I think someone is playing a joke or just want to bug me. This begins after I have this new phone subscription. The caller looked for a particular name and I explained that I did not know the person. End of call. I did not even got the chance to ask from where the call was. The same happen the next day and so on until I decided to ignore the calls that sometimes happened twice a day. Lately, I've got the chance to talk with the caller. It's confirmed! Somebody owns my number and top of that, the calls happen to be from an online lending company. It's a debt collection. I can't believe that. I am not the person they're looking for and I do not have debts from online lending company. I should report this to my network provider. And I hope that l'll no longer receive calls from those people. Such a waste of time.

It sounds to me as if they used to own your phone number and now no longer do. That happened to me before, and I simply said that this is no longer their number, please stop calling.

I can't imagine the network provider recycle the previously owned number and remained active for its previous owners. I suppose it should undergo a deactivation process. It's acceptable if the numbers were wrongfully dialled but like this, oh my I was mistaken of running a debt payment. Horrible! By the way thanks for shedding lights.

@ZedSmart You are welcome. I am not actually sure how cell phone companies decide on numbers. I think you are right, the phone number should not be given to anyone for atleast six months after another had abandoned it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I wouldn't have thought that the fact that I was given a new sim pack. Well, what's important is I'll report this so that this can be resolved or my number be replaced.

@amitkokiladitya No more calls from them this time around. I already explain to them that this is a different number and they should find the person in their address.

Just block the number who called you.

They're using different numbers from time-to-time. It registers like new caller.
