Mobility Stopped!

For one who frowns at every facebook post that shows Hollywood on the background to show that they've been to Hollywood, and when you ask them what did you do in Hollywood and they have no answer, ha, this is my lecture. No, I don't hate travel. I just hate traveling without a purpose. Yes, there is a pleasure in seeing and feeling new places, but what brought you there? And if you post a Hollywood picture and know nothing about the movies, shame! Like what I always say, when you walk the streets of a city, know the city and the people. Enough of my mini lecture. That is just a preamble. What I meant to talk about is the fast-paced mobility of the world's citizens that recently came to a halt. Obviously, the culprit is the novel coronavirus that threatened life itself. I am not glad that fatal coronavirus popped and flipped peoples of the world to panic mode but I am glad that the travel stopped. For once, the planes are simultaneously grounded, the borders blocked, the people confined in their homes. The citizens of this earth are finally compelled to feel the serenity of their confinement in their own units, or homes. Like what the Calcutta Saint Mother Theresa said, 'If we want world peace, go home.' Now people are being sent home, or are already home. Perhaps now we can assess our lives and goals from a home view perspective. Perhaps now we can see with clarity that that tiring chase of the ultimate dream is not exactly the desire of the heart. Perhaps now we can check out that the joy we've been searching was all along just around our corner, right in our own vicinity that we once were so bored about. The world has been so restless, and I was waiting for that time when people would finally agree to rest. It has come. The busyness that was the tall order of each one's day has ceased to be. Brew a cup of coffee and sip it with a loved one. Chat live on the couch, with a cushion on your feet. Crack a joke and chuckle. Rejuvenates the heart in an instant. Come afternoon, before dusk, watch the sunset. It is a beautiful world.

I gave my extra to the SM security guard. Remember the volcanic ash of Pinatubo? That time, I think we sewed our own face masks. There's plenty of retaso in the market.

@eileenleyva I still don't see a need for wearing face mask. And I hope there will be no need until the virus issue ends.

Well I do find that as temporary stop and slow down of everything. But I think after this virus is finally stopped, people will move about again to their old habits of travelling when they can afford to do it. I too would love to stay at home and experience the joy of travelling to a place when I have the time and money to spend. But for now, like you said it I am contented to stay home and be safe from all the hustle and bustle that is happening outside my home.

@eileenleyva I do not know but I feel this as a seasonal outbreak and will eventually wear out like SARS and MERS COV did in the past. They were feared and dreaded before but then they just disappeared outside. The economic and political changes are something that can lasting effect on how people will move about. But for as long as this pandemic/epidemic is still in effect I guess countries will be discouraging their citizens from moving around especially those from the epicenter.

@eileenleyva I guess that repatriation is needed to save our countrymen from being infected further though doing so may also bring with them the virus so extra care for those that they will bring home. Quarantine is necessary for them before they are sent to their homes.

The world is changing drastically. The Brexit had made a statement. 'Keep to your country.' The ncov was not a welcome game changer. But it has set back the restlessness of the world to a time when 'home was where the heart is.' I hold on to the saying. Globalization is a good thing. Now we can avail of sunkists and apples and grapes in the supermarkets instead of the 'for the privilege only' commissaries. But then the onion growers in Nueva Ecija have lost their living. So did the red-gold Ghana people whose tomato industry was severely affected by the goods from other countries. Can you believe that the Philippines, an agricultural country, importing rice? Can't breathe when I hear that. When the disease is gone, it is my hope that the world does not resort back to its old ways. Did you hear, Macau casinos are closed? Yay.

You seem to take positive from devastating corona virus which threatens the existence of life itself. Your positive is people are confined to their homes and you seem to be happy about that. Have you thought for a moment about those people who have invested all their savings in erecting some boarding houses that they could earn some money and take care of their family. I am not talking about those multimillion five star hotels but look in your vicinity those small people having their only means of living is their small lodging hotel.

Nope, I did not think about the lessors in this case. Just thought of family members in their homes with their loved ones. Businesses had been affected by this novel coronavirus, including bigtime capitalists and small income earners. The economy has been affected globally. Care to think about the homeless, too? That would be of more concern, don't you think?

I get that reaction often enough. Sometimes, the jaws drop. Or mouth agape.

@ZedSmart Thank you. Really felt good I was able to finally express that thought here. People need to know that their lives are their own, not as the world dictates it.

The setting sun is a time lapse of magnificent yellow and orange hues in the horizon. Moves so fast that by the time you take the next breath, the sun has gone a hiding. Wonderful.
