National Storytelling week

United States
February 7, 2020 6:04pm CST
.... is nearly over. The first week of February is dedicated to this holiday. The holiday is celebrated in the UK, but it's something I'd participate in for sure. Who doesn't like telling a good story? From what I can find this week was started by a man named Del Reid. Story telling isn't just reserved for school aged children but can be enjoyed in any number of facilities. There is no subject that you must follow for National Storytelling week. It can be based in truth, or as fictional as Arthur and Excalibur (though some may argue that he was once a real man). National Storytelling Week is not to be confused with World Storytelling Day which is celebrated in March. Do you like telling stories?

I am not good enough inventing new stories, so this is not something that I really like.

@LadyDuck We usually were told stories when it was storming and the power had gone out. We begged her to tell us the story of her uncle then.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My grandmother told us ghost stories when I was young. I loved to listen to her and with my cousins we later tried to visit the places where she said there were ghosts.

I had a really weird dream last night, but I haven't been able to write it out because it's not quiet here today. I've told plenty of stories here before, thought about making it a regular thing.

@RebeccasFarm I think I will try to write more here, it will help me with practicing my writing which I've been itching to do.

I’m not creating enough to make up stories. I’m glad others are good at story telling or I wouldn’t have any books to read.

I love making up stories and always have. I think it stems more towards being told stories when I was a little girl than my love for reading. That is about the only way I am creative, I can't sew (don't know how), no good at needlecraft and I cant' draw!

How is this week conducted ? Are there competitions and prizes? Are the stories published in magazines ?

There's little info about it online. I don't think there are any competitions or prizes, though.

Stories have been with us since Adam and Eve, and I can imagine the stories told around fireplaces throughout time.

Yes, or around fires back before fireplaces were a thing.

I used to love making up stories with my grandchildren. They were all good writers because of my doing that with them.

I've always loved hearing stories, especially family stories. I am sure it's gone a long way towards my love of writing.

My Grandmother was the best at telling stories. When I was young and spent weekends with her, she would always tell me stories. I miss her.

@LindaOHio I miss all the pets I've ever had as well. We can't have any here, or I would. I mean, I could have a smaller one, but they have such short lives and I couldn't handle that.

@ScribbledAdNauseum If I haven't heard them 1,000 times. Unless of course it's my husband and we are talking about our dogs that we have had. We tell those stories over and over and laugh and get nostalgic. We miss our dogs. :-(

@ScribbledAdNauseum It's good. In my case I did enjoy telling them stories and they liked it for they're entertained.
