1870 - A joint resolution is signed in Congress by US President Ulysses S. Grant that establishes the Weather Bureau.
1895 - A game called Mintonette is created which is soon referred to as volleyball.
1943 - Joe Pesci was born. He is an American actor, comedian and musician. Some of his movies: Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Irishman, Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, My Cousin Vinny and the Lethal Weapon franchise.
1945 - Mia Farrow was born. She is an American actress, activist and former fashion model. She has appeared in more than 50 films. Farrow appeared as Allison MacKenzie in Peyton Place on televsion. She is most remembered for her role in Rosemary's Baby. Some of her other movies: The Great Gatsby, Broadway Danny Rose, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Alice and Hannah and Her Sisters. She is the daughter of Maureen O' Sullivan and was married briefly to Frank Sinatra. Farrow was Woody Allen's partner for 12 years and appeared in many of his films.
