Have you slapped your controller today?

What about your t.v. set? Well, even if you haven't, at one point I am sure most of have. It may not work with the newer generation of technology, but slapping the t.v. set to get the signal to work was one thing I remember doing with my dad's old black and white t.v. I've slapped a few controllers as well. Did you know there's a name for this? Yep, it's called percussive maintenance.

I don't think it works with the newer tvs, but it seems to still work the remotes.

@amitkokiladitya In fact, the new ones don't really have a good place to hit. They have flatter secreens.

I've used percussive maintenance many times. I also used to fix office machines with a pencil. You can get in there and loosen up a gear (on the old machines, not the new ones).

Using the lead end of the pencil? Or the end with the eraser?

@LindaOHio Ah I see. Now these types of things require maintenance to come and handle them, so many electrical components!

I've slapped it on my thigh, on my palm on the couch... Actually, the controller in my room no longer works ,and I've tried pairing it with another but that didn't work. I did figure out how to use the one button on my t.v. to turn it on and off atleast.

@Tina30219 Yep, that way I don't have to throw it out or try to find a universal remote and hope it works. Though I may buy one anyway, and if it doesn't work, I'll sell it to the thrift store.

I remember when I was a little kid, my dad, slapped our B&W TV to get a signal or picture.

When I was about 12 or so, my dad gave me his old t.v. with the rabbit ears (antenna). I was always slapping it to get the signal to work.

First you'd roll the batteries around and if that didn't work, you'd just slap the controller. Atleast I did.

Yes, it's new for me too. I had never heard of it until I saw it while surfing the net. It used to be something we had to do a lot.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Like you saying technology is different now. I doubt if we can slap our TV's now like you once were able to.

When my remote control stopped working a few weeks ago, I slapped it on my thigh once or twice to see if that would do any good.
