So my day yesterday.... Part 2

Perth, Australia
February 20, 2020 7:41am CST
So as I was saying in my previous post, the teacher brought in 2 baby dolls so we could learn how to take off and change a baby's nappy. There was SO much laughter. We had to follow the instructions that were on the board but we also had to talk to the doll. The teacher said we will look crazy but we have to learn how to be verbal with a real baby when the time comes. For my first try, I only forgot one step which is pretty good but I still wrote it all down to practice at home. I felt so awkward speaking to the doll. I think I said something like "You're so cute but I feel awkward talking to you right now. Yes I do." Said it in a tone you would speak to a baby or a dog lol We will be doing this again Tuesday or Wednesday or both I forgot what she said. Then I sat down to watch the others have a go. One of the men there had a go with the other baby doll and he was hilarious. We have to keep one hand on the baby at all times to prevent the baby wriggling and falling off. Oh and that was the other thing that was funny. If you took you hand off, the teacher would come and flip or roll the baby off. We were all having such great fun. Anyway this man, took his hands off and the teacher flipped it off the table and he was like "That is CHILD ABUSE!" Made the teacher laugh too. When the doll was back on the table, he forgot again about the rule but before the teacher came over to flip the baby, he quickly put his elbow into the doll's stomach hard like a wrestling match Oh I'm crying with laughter typing this. It was great. This other dude ( I think he said he was from Indonesia ) but anyway he had his go and started asking questions to his doll. "So come here often?" "What's your name?" "Mind if I just call you Johnny?" ( Doll was clearly a girl ) "Where are you from?" oh so funny! Sorry if this post isn't funny to you guys. Guess you had to be there but still wanted to share this! It's just a happy memory for me. Really great day! Thank you so much for reading. It's going to be a bit of a long and stressful journey but I feel good talking to you guys about it. The doll is fun to work with but a lot of us are worried about gagging or possibly vomiting when the time comes to change a real baby's nappy. I've never changed one before so should be interesting! ****photo is mine of the other baby, in the background****

You know, I always thought the same thing, and then I became a parent and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Now, my husband changing his son's diaper/nappy, that was hilarious. I read the humor in this post and it gave me a chuckle. You're doing great. I think you'll do well as a child care worker.

I remember all those days of changing diapers/nappys. I shared equally in the duty with my wife. I know many men refuse to do it, or act all squeamish when they do. I had no problems with it at all. You learn really quickly how to do it properly. It was rough at first, because newborn poop is the worst thing ever. I'll admit it made me want to vomit. But over time it got better.

You had me laughing at your descriptions. 'Come here often?' is a classic. I'm sure everyone felt awkward talking to the dolls. I know I would have.

I amazed at your statement ' I felt awkward so awkward to speaking to a doll'. What did you mean

@Treborika Because, I explained in this Discussion that we were changing nappies on baby dolls to practise changing nappies. But my teacher wanted us to communicate with the doll like we would to real babies.

@Treborika From the outside yes, it seems weird but the reason was so our teacher can watch us and see if we needed any improvements when dealing with a real baby. You have to communicate with babies just as much as you communicate with anyone else. She was just watching us and gave us suggestions if we didn't seem communicative enough.

@marlina Nah never. I have been around babies before but not a lot and not in great periods of time.

Oh my goodness, this must be crazy, I am sure you all laugh like crazy. I think that changing baby's nappy is not a big part of fun, but it must be done.
