Big puddle mishap

On the way home from shopping the other week me and my Mum decided to walk up the cycle path instead of going round St Chad's Church because round by St Chad's Church there is a piece of rough footpath.
So we went up the cycle path, which goes past my old School, Netherstowe. There is a small stream inbetween the cycle path and the fence surrounding the school. On the other side is the allotments which back up to the street where our house is.
About half way up the cycle path we came to a large puddle which stretched along the whole of the path so we couldn't go on. Mum said we should go to the right and try and keep really close to the fence by the allotments because it was OK there (she thought). But she was wrong. We did go to the right and found it was wet and muddy and my feet started sinking into the mud. But we battled on to get to the other side of the puddle.
Some people came from the other side and when they got to the puddle what did they do? They walked up the small embankment to our left (their right) and walked past the puddle up there where it was dry. They must have thought we were really stupid wading through the mud on the other side!
We managed to get passed the puddle, and looked round to where we could have gone and remained dry. We felt like such idiots! All we should have done was gone up the small embankment by the stream where people's footfall had created a small path, and our feet would have remained dry.
As it was my left sock was covered in mud and water and I had to take my socks off as soon as I got home and soak them before they could be washed. They came out OK though, which is quite amazing!
We'll not go up the cycle path again when it's been raining!

@amitkokiladitya Yes. Rained again today so we didn't attempt the cycle path!

That is one of my pet peeves when I have to go outside and pick up the garbage cans outside with puddles of water on the grass. My feet feel terrible from stepping on both the mud and puddles.

@sharonelton I would then have to the bathroom and have my feet to take in some warm to hot water to clean out the mess.
