Vivid Violets

Having finally got a half decent day today, I changed the batteries in my camera and took myself out into my somewhat windy garden. I have some beautiful, bright spring flowers in bloom - primroses and daffodils, but this little beauty was hiding under leaves and could almost have been overlooked. I can remember going out with my mum, dad and sisters at this time of year and picking violets which covered banks around fields but sadly, due to the chemicals which farmers use these days, they've all but disappeared from the wild. I was lucky enough to discover a bunch of these on the bank of a derelict house in my home village 20 years or so ago. I used to admire them when I walked into the village to do a bit of shopping but, on one occasion, I heard two men talking outside the house. It seemed it was going to be demolished and I overheard one of the men, presumably the owner of the house, talking to the other man who I assumed was a workman. He was instructing the workman to dig out the whole of the bank and put up wooden fencing. I was horrified to think that little patch of violets would be dug up so, on the way back home from the shop, I bent down and pretended I was sorting out the shopping in my bag, but quickly pulled up a root of violets. I popped it on top of a bunch of bananas that I had in the bag and took it home. As you can seen, the plant has flourished!

Yay! Great pic! I wish it would warm up here enough for the buds to bloom! What kind of camera do you have?

It's a Fuji Finepix S4500. My partner, Adam, bought it for me several years ago. I'd love to go out more and take photos of my home county - we're part of a National Park ... the Norfolk Broads. Unfortunately Adam suffers from anxiety so it's hard to get him to travel too far.

@olliesmum Yeah, I have small bouts of anxiety attacks, but it doesn't effect me. My daughter has major anxiety issues and does not like to drive much.Picture from the park sound great!

@dfollin I'm hoping I'll be able to persuade Adam to take me out when we get some sunny days. I'll try and get him to start taking a 10 minute drive out and then we can build on that.

That's wonderful that you rescued that violet and now it's repaying your kindness.

Adam's named me The Rescuer. I'm like a super hero. I take in injured animals and rescued cats as well as taking pity on plants that look a bit past their best. Whenever we go to the garden centre I never take the plants that look healthy; I'd far rather take the ones that look a bit bedraggled.

That looks very interesting! It's nice you capture something nature's beauty is sharing. Thanks for the post!
